  1. Unless he wants that kind of money now, which would explain why there is no deal yet…
  2. Meh, I see players coming back after playing with other teams. I don’t think that would be the case if they were treated poorly. I think the staff expects a lot out of their players and push them to play better/harder. Some players can’t handle this, while others will flourish. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bostonherald.com/2021/04/18/patriots-among-league-leaders-in-players-returning-for-second-stint/amp/
  3. You’re right. There were countless plays last year where DJ had his guy beat and Teddy didn’t even glance his way. If Darnold can get some chemistry going with DJ imagine what kind of numbers he can put up! One thing is certain, and that’s Darnold won’t be afraid to launch it down the field to give him a chance.
  4. Not throw only 5 completions and 3 INTs against the Saints. PJ isn’t our answer at QB. I’m not sure he really belongs in the NFL…
  5. I think it was the whole missing on Stafford, plus rumors of Watson, and then all the allegations at Watson made that no longer possible, and the Niners trading the farm to get pick 3 meaning 1-3 will certainly be QBs now with some of the 4 picks above us being available for a premium. It was like right after all of that we traded for him. I know they were “high” on him for a while yet they dragged their feet on a future 2nd for him. It just doesn’t add up on my book. I understand they might not be high on Fields, but I still think they panicked a little with Darnold. The good news is he is very young and still pretty raw with some athletic talent. Let’s hope Brady can show why he is regarded as a top young OC. Not to mention I see a lot of analysts liking the move. It will definitely make for an exciting year!
  6. It just what I feel based on the circumstances. I don’t care if a writer/reporter was told differently by the Panther’s Front Office or if that reporter feels differently based on their knowledge. The whole Darnold signing gave me panic vibes and it can be spun however they want to spin it. Or maybe our staff is that confident (could be viewed as arrogant) to think they can steal a potential bust and make him look better than any QB in the draft. Verge said it based on her source, she also has been wrong just like everyone else. She all but guaranteed Mac Jones to the Niners. I’m over the Fields thing, but the point of this thread is to project the worst offseason moves. If Fields looks the part and Darnold continues to struggle that would 100% be the worst move of the offseason. Hopefully our staff can help Darnold look the part and the Fields pick won’t even matter. So far Darnold is saying/doing all the right things, but that was never his issue.
  7. Part of me thinks our staff didn’t think Fields would be there so they made a deal for Darnold. Then on draft day they didn’t want to go QB after giving up picks for Darnold. I still would have, but it looks awkward at best to draft a QB after trading for a young one. I agree with you, passing on a young QB talent while gambling on a struggling young QB has the potential to be the worst offseason move by far…
  8. What if he only missed a couple games (which Darnold has most years)? You need someone capable of managing a game to step in and try to steal a win or two. Look what Teddy did with the Saints a couple years ago.
  9. I still have a feeling either Elf or Erving are going to be low key solid/good for us this year. If they do turn out to be offseason regrets, they don’t hamper the salary cap too much. All things considered it was a solid offseason with our cap looking good in the near future.
  10. Wait, you mean CMC’s contract didn’t ruin our cap and prevent us from signing any linemen?? I need to verify this with my source….
  11. I say let him play LT this year. If he is still elite there, then pay him like it. If not, he gets RT money. It’s not like we have a better option at LT and as mentioned earlier, we can always tag him again.
  12. Our cap is actually pretty good the next few years. Yeah Brown was an option, we just didn’t want to lose the draft picks. Erving is nothing more than a resort/depth player IMO. There was no LT worth taking at 8 (we wanted Sewell) many believe Slater a RT/guard. We drafted another option in the 3rd round in Christensen. Like I said CMC’s contract has nothing to do with us not getting a LT. They are just hard to come by and we have whiffed a bunch trying. We could have maybe traded up for Sewell, but who knows if the Lions were willing (they seemed very excited to get him) and what that would cost. So we threw money at Kalil, signed a vet in Oher, drafted Little, and now drafted Christensen. It’s not getting ignored, we just keep missing like many other teams in the league.
  13. Who are we signing for our line with all this money CMC is wasting? We need a LT and teams with good ones at reasonable ages don’t let them walk. They just aren’t available. We whiffed on Little, Khalil, and Oher trying to address it and that’s the issue. I really don’t think it has much to do with CMC’s contract. Can you name an elite LT that was available, but we couldn’t afford? It’s almost like saying we can’t sign an elite QB because CMC’s salary is too high. If there was one available, we would make it work….
  14. We had a lot of needs and cap issues when Rhule took over. It’s going to take some patience, but a lot of people don’t have very much. I understand it’s entertainment and we all want them to win and win now, but that’s not always realistic.
  15. It’s an obvious rebuild with the owner says it before the season. He told everyone “we are in a building process” to establish sustained success…. His letter to the fans stated “it won’t happen overnight and to be patient” yet people are getting upset at a losing season the very next year. He even hired a coach that specializes in rebuilding programs. A not obvious rebuild would be trading for older vet players and paying a lot of money because we want to win now.
  16. There is movement in my pants whenever he does a pancake block.
  17. I get it, but he is still a bit of an unknown because of how he plays the game. Almost just as much WR as RB. Will that increase his shelf life? Who knows? Also he just turned 25 last month (and barely played last year) with us going into year two of the “rebuild”. So in year 4-5 he will be 27/28 when we should be in the playoffs making a push (in theory). Unless a team is giving up a poo ton for him I don’t see a reason to trade him…
  18. Have you seen our dead cap hit? Our cap was a mess when this new staff took over. It’s not a one or two year process to repair that, lose our core players, and address all of our roster weaknesses. We didn’t feel there was a QB worth drafting in this class at 8 so we used less resources and gambled on another young QB to groom (Darnold). Like it or not that’s the decision we made. People are getting confused about how this works. Most teams aren’t going to ditch every single player of value to rebuild a roster. The older players like Olsen are given the option to leave and compete. Players that have bad contracts like KK are cut. Young playmakers like CMC are built around and developed with the roster. It’s a business and you still have to sell your product/tickets. Right now CMC, Moton, and DJ Moore are the foundation for the offense.
  19. And we lost our best pass rusher, Luke, Cam, and Bradberry while signing a new coach with one of the youngest rosters in the league in which the owner/staff is telling us fans it’s a 6 year process. Yet here you are upset we had a losing season in year one….
