He just said Julio was a non-factor. Shows you how little he knows right there…

He was a safe, sure pick that addressed our biggest issue the year before. He should only get better each year!

I don’t think our staff is going to look at QBR. You can have a great QBR and still lose games. Teddy ranking 17 is middle if the pack, yet he was 0-8 in game winning drives. If Darnold is 19, but makes the throws needed to win games that would be a nice upgrade. If he becomes the leader of the offense and gets some wins due to his play, I think we roll with him again. -

I mean from 32 to 19 is a nice jump. If he is trending up and ranking around middle of the pack that shouldn’t be too bad. I don’t think anyone thinks he can jump from 32 to the top 10 in one season with a new team/staff/offense, right? If that happens Brady might be the next great coach for whoever signs him. -
Must have been a fan of that 80s offense that hid talented QBs and WRs…

Oh yeah, Burrow is legit. Smart, athletic, competitive, and seems to be a film room junkie. The man stays calm under pressure, if they can protect him, he should be the real deal. Check out his jump from Jr to Sr year. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/joe-burrow-1.html He had his chance and didn’t waste it. It will be interesting to see how much of it was Burrow and how much was Brady’s coaching. I’m sure it was a combo of both.

He was crazy accurate in college. Had the NCAA record for highest completion % in a game, and had the most completions in a season. I think he had the most passing yards in the SEC until Burrow broke it. I would say he got drafted because of his stats, not necessarily athletic ability. He had 4275 yards and got Kentucky to 8-4.
-
Yeah I think Baker launched it 70 yards on a Hail Mary, it was just incomplete. Kirk Cousins being on there shows it doesn’t show the whole story. A 50 yards pass from Rodgers looks a lot different than a 50 yard pass from Teddy. The great arms can launch it without having to lob it up high.
-
Lol yeah I saw that 70 yard chunk. It was impressive but it was the end of the game and he gave it his all. That’s not something he can do effortlessly from play to play. I bet his arm got iced after that. It (obviously) had some crazy hang time too. I’m just reading draft profiles and it says “underrated arm strength” but never stats it as one if the best. Similar things show up in Darnold’s. Anyway we are splitting hairs here. The fact is Darnold’s arm is more than capable and he went number 3 overall with his turnover issues for a reason right? I don’t think and average arm, average athlete, with turnover issues gets drafted that high.
-
Definitely has a better arm. I mean the relatively raw athletic QB. I think Darnold throws great off the run, which usually means they have a solid arm. Allen is on another level. I guess when I think of “average” athletic ability I think of Cousins, Ryan, and Mayfield. I’d put Darnold’s arm, scrambling, and ability to throw off the run higher than these guys.
-
He doesn’t have Rodgers arm obviously, but he throws very well off the run with great velocity. I mean him getting picked number 3 overall wasn’t considered a reach at the time. His physical ability is pretty high for the position, he was just pretty raw having just started playing it his junior year. I always saw him as a Josh Allen high potential kind of player. Allen has better speed and size, but Darnold’s athletic ability is pretty high. I believe he played linebacker in High School. I’ve seen some crazy plays where he avoids sacks and makes some impressive throws off the run than not many QBs can make. One is his main weaknesses is trusting this arm too much and making dumb throws instead of throwing it away or taking a sack.
-
Darnold between the ears IS the issue. This means his athletic ability is not. That chart doesn’t work well for QBs. I think the point is Darnold has more than enough athletic ability to be a solid QB. Arm strength and escapability appear to be above average. Does he run a 4.2, or crush the cone drill? Probably not, but that’s not really relevant for the position.
