People that are blaming Freddie must not be watching the same game I am... That was just an absolute snipe by Hughes on the 2nd goal. Let's blame Noesen for practically whiffing on a pass that most players easily steal or at least deflect away from play

I think overall we have outplayed them so far. Unlucky Necas hit the post, got a bit unlucky on their first goal, and then an absolute brain fart on defense on the 2nd goal

Well, we knew they would come out throwing the kitchen sink at us. Try and get it together. If not, it's only one game and go steal game 4.

Not sure you can blame Freddie there. Hughes had it on the other post and we let him pass it to Timo wide open on his forehand from behind the net. Almost an impossible post to post move in that little amount of time. I'm surprised Freddie got over there as quick as he did. Unfortunately for him, Timo's wrap was so inaccurate that it managed to go through Freddie's 5 hole

After a series and 2 games, what I have learned from the playoffs is that if I don't watch the Canes, they have the game of their lives. Apparently I will have to watch replays the rest of the playoffs when we win the Cup

I think it's more of a credit to the system we have in place that we can plug and play people so well

I've always thought that if their team was more committed to defense and blocking shots, that they could be very good. They have a ton of scoring depth among their forwards

It's interesting going on the Devils boards and almost all of their fans aren't worried and still have no doubt they will beat the Canes. I know this was a letdown spot for them, but man they look overmatched against our forecheck. They were lucky the posts saved them from having a TD scored on them. Also funny that all of their fans are saying that the Rags are a way better team than us - While the Rangers top 6 is made up of better scorers, our forwards don't get nearly enough credit for their backcheck and covering for our dmen when they pinch. Their forwards also had zilcho chemistry and it became even more obvious during their playoff series. We just have to be smart with our positioning, because it seems like the Devils rely on counters for scoring. We can't be overly aggressive in our forecheck and give them odd man rushes. Keep running our 2 to 3 man forecheck, keep a couple back deep for breakouts, and keep forcing the Devils into turnovers in their zone.

Also, who started this trend of pulling your goalie down 3? Has it literally ever worked?

Until refs start calling penalties and players start getting big bans, they will keep doing it. The bigger problem is our skaters aren't doing it. We saw kadri's cheap shot last year that hurt binnington and he didn't even get a game. I'm surprised more players aren't coached to do it

Didn't watch OT and didn't see the Kraken's first goal, but not sure any goalie was stopping goals 2, 3, or 4 for the Kraken. 2 was terrible D from the Stars after a turnover (all 5 players close to the left boards) and Schultz sniped it top left shelf after a wide open cross crease pass. Goals 3 and 4 were crazy deflections that would be borderline impossible reactions to make to save (honestly, the only way to save them would probably be being out of position). Honestly, I thought Otter made some really good saves in the 2nd and early 3rd when Dallas was mostly on the defensive. Dallas folded like a house of cards to the Kraken forecheck in the first and their terrible turnovers/positioning gave the Kraken most of their goals.

A few of the teams that went all-in at the deadline (Rags, Bruins) and some that made splash trades (Islanders) are out in the first round. Even Timo has been a bust for the Devils (so far). Meanwhile, the Canes, who are rotating in AHLers, made it further in the playoffs than those teams.

Well, the good news is they don't know dick about the Devils either probably. I am going to guess all of the talk will be about Schmid, which is fair enough since the dude had a hell of a series for against the Rags

Yep. We have to stay disciplined on our forecheck. If we do what the Rangers did and give the Devils 15+ odd man rushes, we will lose. I don't mind physicality, but when you have cheap shot artists like Trouba, it's just annoying. Somebody just needs to take a stick and slash Trouba's knees as hard as possible
