  1. Yeah, I think most everyone just assumed he was out on the golf course. Hired in March as a senior defensive assistant coach after being out for 5 years.
  2. This is pretty true. Most of the time the market for pass rush is either guys getting a little closer to past their primes and might want to chase a championship, or guys that have been good but not great. Since it is a premium position, it kind of makes you wonder why a younger player is even on the FA list. But it is an option to putting together a team.
  3. That's a viable option. Who did you have in mind? There are some big names on the FA list next year.
  4. Of course. There is a business side to the sport as well. One thing I would point out, there are certain positions that are considered premium. LT, QB and pass rush. Those are need-to-haves. WR and CB right behind. So either we pay the man market value, or we play the market and see what we can draft. Either way it's going to be an expenditure because pass rush is not a luxury. I completely understand looking at the trade and thinking why didn't we take it. Maybe it was the wrong decision. At the end of the day though something will have to be spent on the spot, either picks or dollars, since it's a must-have.
  5. The Rams struggles really all get down to the lack of consistent and quality oline play. They don't have great backs, and they don't have a great line in front of them, so they struggle with being 1 dimensional with Kupp. They still have enough that they will be .500ish for the season. While the proposed trade sure sounds good, keep in mind that those players would have to be immediately replaced with unproven players, since there are no candidates on the roster to move into those spots and perform at that level. It would represent tearing everything down, which may or may not be necessary for depending on opinion.
  6. Brad Johnson with the Bucs. Fields probably can't be placed at that level just based on being inconsistent. For what it's worth we don't have that either with our whole collection of misfits and unwanteds at QB.
  7. As cb Eric Davis once said, "The mascot is a black cat."
  8. There aren't a whole lot of excuses for Lance. He went to a stable franchise, with a quality staff in place, and got to sit on the sidelines behind an adequate starter instead of being pushed out on the field day 1. He just might be a bust, but he had such a small sample size of college games on the resume that I can see why it may be a shot and a miss for the Niners
  9. There's some speculation that Snyder is unable to land any sort of stadium deal, and that might be a driver in this possible sale. It makes some sense, FedEx Field is an awful game day experience, and Snyder is seen as toxic enough that no one would want to work on helping him with a new building and all the hurdles that would entail.
  10. Richardson is not ready for NFL play. He needs time and experience and work. If he comes out, he will bust on a team that cannot afford to give him the environment he needs.
  11. To the first part of your scenario, pft had a write up about Ryan's contract and how that was the real determiner in benching him for the rest of the year once it was decided he didn't have it anymore. No sympathy at all for Ryan from me, but the Colts kind of exacerbated any wear and tear going on in the arm immediately with the number of attempts they had him taking per game. To the second part of your post, if he was signed I would put the Panthers back on boycott similar to the end of the Fox era when we were the dumbest team in the NFL. No games, no merch, no money spent.
  12. There was some talk that Navarro made some good money in the aggressive debt collection business and that the league wasn't so keen on having that background in ownership. As a counterpoint to that, Haslam still owns the Browns after scamming transportation companies for years.
  13. Terrible player. Terrible pick. He was constantly beaten like a drum. Do we really have to revisit anything to do with him?
  14. https://operations.nfl.com/updates/the-game/nfl-reinvents-pro-bowl-starting-in-2023/ Ok, for those interested, the Pro Bowl has been renamed to the Pro Bowl Games. There is a flag football game, and the website only describes a week-long celebration with fun skills competitions but does not mention what those may in fact be. At 1 point I had heard that there would be a players Madden tournament, but maybe that is not included in the official slate of Pro Bowl Games week.
  15. If he plays next year, and that's a big if, it won't be on the Bucs. Niners or Dolphins maybe.
  16. Yes and the players are still rewarded with bonus money but I don't know if there is a percentage of that based on winning match ups and tournaments. It was time for it to go. It was no longer entertaining, especially when a high number of selections would opt out.
  17. I think the Pro Bowl is gone now. It's supposed to be a fun skills competition and Madden tournament between the players. Maybe if we have any Pro Bowlers they will be monsters of the ping pong table.
  18. One thing to keep in mind is that there seems to be a changing of the guard at the QB position. Look at how many teams have subpar QB play this season, and how some of the big names aren't having great seasons. I think we are seeing a shift right now, and maybe picking at the top of the draft isn't the most important thing in the world, especially if the guys that are up there may not be worth that kind of scratch and hype. It's an interesting time, I mean especially since the wage scale was partly brought about to make picking a QB at 1 not a necessity anymore. This class may not have a superstar qb in it, but I think it's got got some depth that in the right setting can develop into quality.
  19. All is not lost yet. Texans and Raiders play each other today, so 1 of those teams will get their 2nd win. Commies are currently ahead in their game. Lions are only down a few. Jags are up in their game. It might be a good day to get a win.
  20. Oregon should be penalized points for those uniforms. Looks like Madden create-a-team gone terribly wrong.
  21. Teams don't usually spend 1st round picks on rbs that are within sight of that magic number 30. Just doesn't happen, and all the wishing in the world won't change it. I think most fans are going to be disappointed to see him go. It's not the outcome any of us wanted. But, we've got some draft capital that we very much needed. Maybe we collect some more, and maybe we spend it wisely. I have less confidence about that last part happening. I sort of wonder if some of the motivation for wanting/expecting a 1st for him was a crazy idea that it could lead to a deal with the Saints for Payton. Just something to think about.
  22. It's a fair question. Ultimately some team will be willing to roll those dice and will take him towards the top, if not at the top of the draft. I think where we differ on opinion is maybe more where that draft position should be. I don't think it's wise to take someone that may ultimately be very disadvantaged by size limitations at the next level at such a premium spot in the draft. I tend to think that historically that opinion holds water, but every year there are sure-fire prospects that can't miss, and bust, as well as later round gems that make it. I'm glad I don't have to take on that burden of risk myself.
  23. His size is possibly an issue, and it could be an issue for his entire career. His growing days are pretty much over. The internet gives a range of anywhere from 5'11/185 up to 6'/195. For comparative purposes, Murray is ranged at 5'10 and anywhere from 194 to 207. Mayfield is 6'1/209. Wilson is listed at 5'11/206. Brees was listed at 6'/209. Just for fun, Tarkenton was considered small at 6'/190. Flutie was 5'10/181. So there is evidence that teams can win and be successful with undersized qbs, to limited effect. Wilson and Brees have won a Superbowl. Tarkenton is in the HOF. Maybe Flutie got a ring in his final years with the Pats? It's just that it seems to be a risk, and maybe it's a risk that you don't take at the top of the draft. Murray and Mayfield are the only names on that list that were taken very high, and they have had mixed success to this point. I think it's a risk I am more comfortable to see some other team take if Young is in play that high in the draft.
  24. If I put anything on eggs other than salt/pepper/etc its salsa. Something with some heat, nothing mild that would pass for vegetable soup. If I'm feeling ambitious I would include some chorizo, mash up an avocado, grate some cheese, and wrap it all up in a tortilla.
