  1. I think "mortgage the future" is confusing people. The basic premise is that we had the opportunity to "draft" one of three players - in actual fact we could have had two of three - and we chose Darnold. That choice is one that Fitts and Rhule will have to live with / answer for if it goes badly.
  2. Pretty much. We had the opportunity to draft one of: Fields, Jones, Darnold. We "drafted" Darnold. If he fails and one (or both) of the other two succeed, that's a black eye on what would otherwise be considered a successful offseason. Unfortunately for the front office, QB is the make or break position.
  3. Little is cheap. I'm sure they'll give him an opportunity to stick, but the coaches nor the front office are in any way tied to him. He'll have to fight. If he doesn't, oh well. Best of luck.
  4. And Chuba. He could really learn a lot from CMC.
  5. I'm actually surprised more people haven't made that connection. Their physical similarity is eerie.
  6. Not sure it will be good for us. He was making 9+ per season, and the dude is 29. That generally isn't the type of player we've been signing in the Rhule era.
  7. That's what I did when someone said he had a terrible game versus Coastal this year. Watched the Zach Wilson footage for that and oddly enough, nearly all of Coastal's pressure came from the right.
  8. That's not even a jump for Darnold. Thats 2019. He needs to move forward. 65% completion, 2:1 TD to INT, 3500+ yards.
  9. I never bought any of the Mac Jones talk, though after watching Coach Hoodie at the Alabama pro day I am a little surprised they took him . . . even though I said a LONG time ago that they would. His body language at that pro day was very deceptive. Well played Coach Hoodie. All that aside, the conversations around Darnold's fifth year option could ALL be true. It could be true that we didn't exercise the option pre-draft because there was a guy we hoped would fall. It could equally be true that we didn't exercise it in the hopes that someone would offer us a train load of capital for our pick. Doesn't necessarily need to be one or the other.
  10. Isn't it funny how people get blinders about players they like?. Yea, Zylstra was great on ST. So was Colin Jones. Don't worry about ST. It's overrated. Pick your six best catchers of the ball, runners of routes. We'll find somebody to run down the field on punts.
  11. I was never a fan of bringing him here, but what all of us think is now irrelevant. Sam is our QB this year and next. We have to hope he succeeds.
  12. With the Deonte Brown pick, it looks like we do view the guy as a tackle.
  13. Hope his game translates, having IOL who can move the line back will really help our red zone production.
  14. That makes sense. We only need another half second to one second and Brian Burns is going to start looking like an All Pro to non-Panthers fans.
  15. Not sure about that comparison. Kittle had amazing hands coming out of college, and if there were doubts about him it was in relation to his blocking. Tremble is just the opposite. Doubts about his hands, no doubts about his blocking.
  16. Doyle is a good shout given how our staff value athleticism.
  17. I think safety is why we went to the top of the 4th. Sounds like the guy (Jamar Johnson) to put next to Chinn, who figures to be more of a box safety / hybrid LB.
  18. Jordan Gross was 23 when his rookie season started. Just sayin . . .
  19. I think you need to go watch that again. The only time I saw him "bad" was on the very last drive they ran some sort of stunt at him and he got called for holding. He was very solid otherwise. Pressure was coming from the other side.
  20. Let's assume for just a moment that Horn is everything a first round draft pick should be. Let's go so far as to say he becomes our new Josh Norman / Chris Gamble. Consider . . . Who played opposite of Josh Norman? Of Chris Gamble? The honest answer is . . . IT DIDN'T MATTER. Once you have a CB who can lock down the best player on the other team, pass defense gets really easy. We don't need another CB.
  21. We spent years watching Ron and Marty neglect the Oline. Can we please get a legit NFL tackle?
  22. Young also sat behind the a HoF QB (arguably the GOAT pre-Brady) for how many years in SF? And didn't get a look until Montana got hurt? Oh, and had perhaps the one of the GOAT offensive minds there to boot? Young was 31 years old when he became STEVE YOUNG. Not exactly comparable.
