  1. The big red flag indicating the Panthers were going off the rails was when Tepper publicly called Marty Hurney a genius GM. Of course, I don't believe he mentioned that pearl of wisdom until after his Rhule hire. By that time, it was unfortunately too late for an emergency fan intervention.
  2. Well, he is smart at some things and he does seem to be learning when it comes to hiring an NFL head coach. Gotta give Tepper his due.
  3. Ahh, yes, the tried and true excuse of many NFL owners over the years: Your honor, who could possibly hold me accountable for my decisions? After all, I'm drunk and stupid. My lawyers will now submit years of supporting evidence to backup my claim.
  4. Tepper now has someone in the building that has dedicated their entire adult life and much of their youth to the game of football, either as a player or coach. Reich has a level of credibility when he speaks that hasn't been in the building since Rivera. Better yet, Reich has a history of success in a problem area that has plagued the Panthers for much of the team's history, finding and developing QBs.
  5. The Panthers situation going into this coming season is markedly better than it has been for at least 4 years. Three seasons of Rhule (no explanation needed) and Rivera's final season, where he was basically throwing poo at the wall hoping something would stick because he had run out of ideas. Hard to believe, knowing the Panthers just hired an offensive expert/former NFL QB, who learned his trade at the feet of some of the best coaching minds the NFL has had to offer during the last 50 years, that any fan wouldn't be stoked right now.
  6. While certainly true, I don't believe the Rooney Rule gives credit for previous hiring history. Irsay has to interview minority candidates for his HC opening and it is hard to imagine that any legitimate candidate will have a thinner resume than Jeff Saturday.
  7. If there's one owner in the league begging for a discrimination lawsuit it has to be Jim Irsay's Colts.
  8. Let's be serious for a moment shall we? As delicious as Earl Grey tea is, it has nothing to do with the aging process. Just proves Patrick Stewart is a starship captain and warp drive is a real thing. Einstein's Theory of Relativity for the win. Boom! That just happened, at the speed of light!
  9. At the risk of stating the obvious: This thread has gone to poo!
  10. Hey, this is a thread for unpopular opinions, what did you expect? My choices were Matt Corral or Ice Cream should be its own food group. Did I choose poorly?
  11. Be patient, with the hiring of Frank Reich, Matt Corral has gone from afterthought to Panthers future franchise QB.
  12. I'm concerned that Dave's experience with Matt Rhule has colored his judgement and not in a good way.
  13. Yeah, the argument that "Tepper's solution for improving the offense was the same as mine" (hire Reich), doesn't seem like it would help advance Wilks' racial discrimination lawsuit all that much.
  14. On the controversial KC third down, the official's rational for the redo was the game clock had started at the same time as the play clock. It shouldn't have (the previous play was an incomplete pass). Yet, you can clearly hear the Head Official tell the time keeper prior to the original play to "reset both the play clock and game clock and start them on his signal", which is what the time keeper did. The Head Official was the one who screwed up and created the controversy.
  15. Questionable calls were going in KC's favor most of the night while there were numerous instances of obvious infractions by KC that went uncalled. Bottom line: Intentional or not, the refs had undue influence in the outcome of the game. Very disappointing in what was otherwise a competitive contest.
  16. Rumor has it Vic Fangio was going to sign with the Panthers on Friday, but he couldn't find Ericsson Stadium.
  17. Just my poor attempt at humor in response to the 3-4 defense thread and Capers claim to fame. I'll step away from the keyboard for awhile (maybe).
  18. Hey Frank, Dom Capers called and wants to get the band back together.
  19. Fangio: Say hello to my little friend! Hmm, this light hearted tangent has taken a dark turn.
  20. Somebody's got an opinion, starts a thread about it, others don't agree with them. That's pretty much what has kept the Huddle viable all these years. I wouldn't get too worked up about this thread. Who's gonna remember it in a week or two? Especially once the next tempest in a teapot comes along? Not many.
  21. Latest reports out of Florida indicate Fangio is wearing a wide brim fedora, Hawaiian shirt, Bahama shorts, white socks and sandals. That coupled with his apparent short term memory loss pretty much ensures he's a lock for Miami.
  22. Lol, Frank Reich hasn't even made it halfway through his first week on the job and we've already got people suggesting he be fired. The Huddle never fails to disappoint.
  23. I tend to pull for the underdog and Wilks was definitely that being handed responsibility for a trainwreck not of his own design. It would have been a great Hollywood ending to have Wilks named HC. Wilks' calling card is his defensive expertise and what he should be primarily judged by. Unfortunately, there were too many defensive lapses down the stretch that called into question if Wilks would really be the best candidate for the job. I think comparisons of Wilks to Rivera and Fox are close enough to be fair and that their style of coaching is no longer viable in today's NFL, at least not if your ultimate goal is to win a SB.
