Kurt Warner on The Herd, talking about our new QB.
CarolinaRideorDie replied to Ivan The Awesome's topic in Carolina Panthers
This thread has been derailed about Kurt Warner hate. But if anyone who is a true football enthusiast will appreciate the insight. Kurt Warner isn't the first QB analyst to say this about Matt Corral. I want Corral to be our franchise QB just as much as the next Panthers fan, but there is a reason why Corral went in the the 3rd round. If Corral really had the talent and potential to be a franchise QB, he would have went #1 overall. Heck even the Panthers didn't think he was worth # 6 overall. Panthers fans need to temper their expectations. -
It kind of sounds like Rhule should have hired people with some actual NFL experience instead of a college passing game coordinator that was all hype! Rhule was too smart for his own good and trusted his process too much.

Hopefully one day we can retire Ekwonu's #79 jersey.

I never said it didn't matter, I said it doesn't always correlate with NFL success. Of course it helps to be athletic, some people just put too much stock in to that.
-
Having a high RAS score doesn't correlate with NFL success. It just shows that you worked out really well in spandex at the combine. You can't measure a guy's intangibles, football IQ, and passion through athletic testing and these traits matter more than being able to run fast.

Correct team structure has started. Now what?
CarolinaRideorDie replied to lightsout's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think our roster is full of solid young potential, but we are still far from competing for a superbowl. Look at the rosters of perennial contenders? Rams roster is full of All Pro and Pro Bowl talent. Bengals overachieved last year but still had foundational talent in Burrow, Chase, and Mixon. The only pro bowl talent we had was Burns last year, CMC IF he is healthy. If these players are not achieving personal accolades, they are not being developed. -
Chris Simms - Matt Corral is the top QB of the draft class
CarolinaRideorDie replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
I've listened to Simm's evaluation of Corral and the other QB prospects from this year and his assessment is pretty spot on. Overall it sounds like Corral has the physical potential to be a great QB and has shown evidence through is game tape. At this point it's just if Corral can put it all together. I want to know more about the kid's intangibles, Darnold has the physical ability to be a great QB, but he lacks the intangibles. Tom Brady has the physical ability but is a fierce competitor and demands perfection and that's what separates these QBs. My expectation is that if Darnold stinks it up within first 4 games, let Corral start so we can see what we have in him. If he plays well, then we'll be out of position to draft the top QBs next year, if he stinks it up we'll likely have a top 5 pick. -
Rhule turning to Corral if Sam plays poorly? C'mon guys, did we all forget that Rhule refused to play BC at LT until the end of the season despite the sh't show? In all honesty, I think if Sam plays poorly, Rhule will turn to PJ if he is still on the team before he goes to Corral. Or he could just play all 3 QBs in the same game and take turn with offensive series like how he did with Cam.

Matt Corral is here because of Ben McAdoo
CarolinaRideorDie replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Of course we won't ever had that kind of fortune, seems like the football gods hate us for some reason. I knew Russell was going to be good because I went to NC State and saw him play. He was pretty much a walk on and back up, got his chance to start and elevated the NC State football team during his years, they were ranked because of him and he had nothing to work with. He went to Wisconsin and also won there too. I knew he was going to be a good QB but I didn't even expect him to be this great. I just don't see some of these QB prospects bringing that "winning culture" with them. Cam won where ever he went and elevated each team he played on. Some college QBs are great because they have an amazing support cast and are much harder to project (ex. Tua, Fields, Jones, etc.) -
Matt Corral is here because of Ben McAdoo
CarolinaRideorDie replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Fitt essentially said that if Corral doesn't work out, then it's McAdoo's fault because he wanted him lol. At the same time, I believe McAdoo is better QB evaluator than Rhule and Fitt but Corral being QB#1 in a weak class doesn't mean crap. It's like being the prettiest ugly girl in the room. The weak QB class is reflected by all the QB prospects slipping in the draft or just even being passed on by QB needy teams. People on here were banging the table for Carson Strong who went UNDRAFTED!! Don't get me wrong, I hope and pray that Corral can be our Russell Wilson in the 3rd round, but let's not get carried away too. -
Does Matt Rhule develop players?
CarolinaRideorDie replied to poundaway's topic in Carolina Panthers
Position coaches develop individual players, however Rhule is the HC and he needs to provide guidance and structure to his position coaches on what he wants out of his players. Based on last year's draft class, we didn't get much out of our picks. I know Jaycee got hurt but outside of that, no one else really contributed. Rhule's first draft only netted 2 full time starters in Brown and Chinn, everyone else is a rotational player. This will be year 3 for 2020 draft class and based on how they play, we can get a better sense if Rhule can really develop players. -
Are we also developing Rhule too?
-
We are set for the next 10 years! Yes!
-
wow, how did we get our choice of the 3 top LTs left?
-
I think Tepper's press conference has a lot of influence on how the draft plays out. If Tepper REALLY supports Rhule and gives him 5 years to build this team, then Rhule is not on the hot seat and is not pressured into reaching for a QB at pick 6. Panthers trade back into teens or possibly early 20 and gets 2nd or 3rd round picks. If by chance Willis or Pickett fall to them that far down the board where their value matches their pick, then they will pull the trigger and draft their QB. Win/win situation. If we trade down and don't get a QB, then pick BPA (LB/DL/OL) and pick QB in next year's draft.

Tepper is full of it regarding Darnold
CarolinaRideorDie replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Moore is good, but I also don't think he is the same receiver or produced on the same level as Smith did. And yes I understand Moore didn't have stable QB play, but it's whatever at this point. -
Tepper is full of it regarding Darnold
CarolinaRideorDie replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Steve Smith is a great trash talker, but he offers nothing in player evaluation or analysis. I've watched previous drafts and some of the comments he makes about the WR prospects are just absolute trash or so generic. If I remember correctly he thinks Corey Davis was going to be a beast in the league, he is already on his second team. -
Tepper is full of it regarding Darnold
CarolinaRideorDie replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree that Tepper saying Darnold is a "very good QB" is absurd and stupid. At the same time I don't think he truly means it when we were actively looking into Deshaun Watson trade this offseason. Actions speak louder than words. And the notion that we should say positive things to support our current QB because we need leverage doesn't make sense. You can't make sh*t smell good. The whole league knows Darnold is ass. Honestly Tepper should have just said that he defers to the coaches and GM for the QB situation. You are responsible for what you say, you'll either be proven a liar or a dumbass. -
Explicitly saying that Darnold is a good QB is different from his previous statements that they need to upgrade the QB position when Cam or Teddy was still present. I'm just curious why he shows Darnold so much support when he was quick to bash the other QB's that's all. If Tepper was the only reason why Cam came back last year then it proves that he meddles too much and Rhule and Fitterer had to say yes to it.
-
Tepper upsets me with his quote saying that he thinks Sam Darnold was a good quarterback and believed in him. You didn't hear him say that about Cam when he first bought the Panthers. Tepper is just trying to force us to believe in his mistakes. I don't even know if he truly believes in Rhule or if he just covering up his mistakes at this point. At the end of the day, put a poor product on the field, fans will lose interest and affect the bottom line, maybe then Tepper will listen. Only thing billionaire's hate to lose more than football games, is to lose money.
-
Is Rhule sucking Tepper's D? What did Rhule's wife put in those meatballs? I have no idea how an owner puts so much confidence in a HC that hasn't proven anything. How does Rhule have so much leash?

Fitterer and Morgan draft presser today at 2:00
CarolinaRideorDie replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Of course Darnold is comfortable, he is comfortable with his trash QB play too. Dude just doesn't have the "IT" factor or desire to be great. -
2022 Draft / Best Player Available
CarolinaRideorDie replied to OceanPanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Arguably the top 6 players are either defensive or offensive linemen. Hutchinson, Walker, Thibs, Neal, Cross, Icky. We are at least guaranteed one of these players by pick 6 and they would fill a need and be BPA. Of course unless we reach for a QB.
