  1. With the lack of intensity the lack of any real leaders stepping up and coach going out of his way to publicly call out specific position groups while omitting others I'm not loving the team vibe rn heading into preseason. Need cohesion. Today is a new day though hopefully this was motivation.
  2. Panthers fans still hating on #1 is just sad. I do think Jones could surprise some people though. But in truth I hope that franchise suffers for awhile those fans deserve a poo sandwich.
  3. Well that's the point of the discussion bc most people here don't want to see Sam turned into a human pretzel by November.
  4. So basically the previous Seattle Seahawks approach which has led to discontent from their own franchise quarterback. Great!
  5. I get the frustration but at what point does some level of resentment seep in if we keep throwing our receivers under the bus? If the offense isn't looking good as a whole then pull them together if one part is failing the whole unit is failing let Sam be the glue and the leader and elevate the group. This is a young roster in need of leadership.
  6. Welp that's why you don't start buying too much hype in early August. Hopefully the shock of getting lit up by the great Sam Ehlinger will light a fire under our young defense
  7. Well we chose our path. I concur regarding the risks of first round quarterbacks but if Darnold flops which we hope he doesn't that's our prime option in 2022 if we want a franchise quarterback. The stakes only get higher from here on. For the moment we are not desperate but if the failures of other franchises around the league have shown that can change in a hurry. As of now we essentially drafted a 24 year old quarterback with our 2nd round pick next year. But the concern is this line and what that will do for Sam Darnold's development if he's got the defense in his face in an instant in passing situations. He's already been rattled with the Jets per his own remarks against the Patriots. Reading the recent tea leaves from camp his pass protection being a little sketchy seems like a definite possibility at least in the short term. We are basically in a position where if Sam fails to show the promise expected we have to bring in another arm and Will Grier and PJ Walker though good guys they don't fit the bill in that regard.
  8. Having a franchise quarterback is more important than a corner. No offense to Jaycee I hope he is great but that is the reality in the modern NFL. If you don't have the centerpiece all else is moot. Any head coach or gm worth their salt will say the same if they value their job security. In our case the decision makers went all in on Darnold instead of a draft pick. We hope that was correct but make no mistake it is a big risk.
  9. Don't think you can really compare this to other teams who have dropped the opener and gone on to be successful. First of all coming off back to back 5 win seasons. Second of all how many of those teams acquired the starting qb of the opponent who was previously the worst team in the league? This is not a standard opener.
  10. Must win indeed. If Carolina loses everyone on down to the waterboys deserve to be ridiculed into oblivion. Worse than the Jets is not an option.
  11. The consensus assessments of prospects such as Justin Fields and Trey Lance vs Zach Wilson is the same old tired story that has been going on for years. Two of the three are one read flukes who just aren't "cerebral" enough for the position while Wilson is the next flavor of the month. Seen the same thing so many times over the years. Blaine Gabbert and Jake Locker were supposed to be good too. Same thing with our own starter vs Josh Allen. If you fit the profile and fit into the box of biases and preconceived notions for some folks that's enough. And some fans and analysts will never give mobile quarterbacks their due because that's not how their daddy did it back in the day.
  12. Actually both ongoing convos here have relevance with one another. We passed on a qb because we have Sam Darnold even though his backups are Will Grier and a former XFL starter. We drafted a tackle in the third round to supposedly assist in protecting our starting qb who has yet to play more than 13 games in a season. Yet from the current looks of it Christensen will not be contributing much if at all in the short term. This is a gamble that if it pays off our coaches and gm look brilliant if not well there will be questions and none of them will be particularly sympathetic.
  13. https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/14519/josh-bynes ESPN says 12 and 16. Take yourself to bed if you're getting mad enough to be slinging poop over some jag depth player we just picked up
  14. That depends. How many more years are we going to bandage up the offensive line instead of addressing it head on? 2022 has to be the big one regardless of the win/loss record for this season.
  15. Since 2019: 1-3 against Atlanta 0-4 against New Orleans 1-3 against Tampa Bay. 8 wins is objectively realistic. The Broncos should be the same or less though based on the competition in their division.
  16. He only played 12 games in 2019. He'll be 32 in a few weeks and his pff grade last year was 52.6 with a full 16 games. I wouldn't get too attached just yet.
  17. The funny thing is if the team takes some lumps this season that's more likely to be you than anyone else based on how combative you have been through the offseason toward anyone with a different take that isn't showering the team with praise. The rest of us have been through the likes of 2010 so all of this is just a cakewalk
  18. In this context the truth referenced was simply about Darnold playing within his capabilities and letting the talent around him elevate both him and the offense as a whole instead of him trying to do too much on his own like he did with the Jets. Which strangely enough has been the basis of reasoning from users like sbblue on why we should have patience with him. So hostility on the matter here is both misplaced and odd.
  19. Good luck making it through 17 games if you can't handle the truth in August
  20. Hey he's yet to play more than 13 games in a season. You want him to buck that trend right? Gotta keep him healthy and let the playmakers do what they do.
  21. Depends on what happens with Sam. Winning cures all as they say.
  22. The scrambling ability is a big plus. But if he's running at all like that for the Panthers with a 64 million dollar rb in the backfield that probably means our season is toast.
  23. Some people act like they are paid by the team to be an official mouthpiece for the front office. We are having continued on and off discussions about the new strict photography and general media policy of the team but some folks actually believe the Panthers will show the whole world their unaltered draft board. It's amusing.
