  1. The Chargers are 20th in points scored. Their opponents this season are 29th, 13th, and 32nd in points allowed. Put another way: - they scored 20 against WAS, who allowed 29 and 43 in their other games - they scored 17 against DAL, who allowed 31 and 21 in their other games - they scored 30 against KC, who allowed 29 and 36 in their other games Those kind of results will lead to a points-based metric really disliking your offense.
  2. With 3-weeks of data teams are starting to form identities that show up in statistics. Obviously three games is a small sample size, but I thought it would be interesting to visualize the simple rating system (SRS) of each team's offense and defense. (source: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2021/index.htm) SRS is a points-based metric that gives a measure of team quality vs average (0); Higher is better. It DOES take into account the quality of opponent. Based on SRS, the Panthers have the 2nd best defense through three weeks and a slightly above average offense (shown below). We are also in the top-right segment of the chart which is where good teams live. I'm excited about the early results. The visualization also shows that our Panthers will have a good test of their defense when they square off against Dallas who is currently sporting the 2nd rated offense according to SRS. On the plus side, the Dallas defense rates below the Panthers three previous opponents. Projected Score Panthers 30 Dallas 22
  3. per ESPN, "...our pass block win rate metric conveys the rate linemen can sustain their blocks for 2.5 seconds or longer." Based on images in the same article it appears that most of the failure was our interior OL (note the 2! Jets DTs in the top 10).
  4. Called it. You don't punt from your 33 and also have confidence in your kicking game.
  5. 1) Kicking/lack of confidence in the kicking game. I wouldn't be surprised to see us cut Santoso and try develop him on the practice squad. 2) O-line is outmatched. We will have to scheme around it all season. Honorable Mention) Pass coverage was leaky. Whenever we didn't get pressure it was almost always a completion or a drop.
  6. I don't see him playing. He hasn't even been practicing to my knowledge. Texans are paying him to be on the roster. Right now it's part of the 53, but it could be on an exempt list at some future point in the season. Basically, they are paying millions this season for future 1st round draft picks.
  7. I also got the sense that the roster wasn't "final" hence the not wanting to talk about players specifically. Shi could go on IR tomorrow and be eligible to return in 3 games. Easy way to create a roster spot for a waiver wire addition.
  8. I was reading that this was a real possibility a few days ago. Basically they are equally good/bad so why eat a roster spot. Once they get past today they can IR-to-return some players (3 games) and bring back either guy.
  9. I do wonder what kind of "injury" Fletch has that is season ending
  10. Win-win. Jansen gets his sunset tour. Team gets a super reliable long snapper and doesn't have to expose their 6th round investment to waivers.
  11. Conservative coach chooses conservative QB. Color me shocked.
  12. "sensor" And I agree regarding the first downs.
  13. I loved how our draft was run! I liked that we tried to consolidate more picks around the 3rd round which is where career AV and the old Jimmy Johnson chart disagree the most. I loved that instead of trying to beat the odds with 6 picks like have in the past, we embraced the odds and just took more shots
  14. If true, the Horn pick should hopefully put some at ease knowing football people are making the decisions.
  15. Here's what I think Sam should be able to hit if he is able to: improve his Cmp% by 3% (roughly what Teddy saw when he went from MINN to NO/CAR) improve his TD% by 0.5% decrease his Int% by 0.5% match Teddy in Y/C I estimated 550 attempts based on Teddy's attempts from last season extrapolated for a 17 game season.
  16. I think unless someone unexpected (e.g. Wilson) drops to 8, we won't be drafting QB in the 1st. The team already compared Darnold to the expected QB options at 8 and chose Darnold.
  17. You don't have to actually commit to the 5th year until after the draft though, so not that different.
  18. If true that suggests Atlanta isn't leaning QB. Or isn't enamored with the QBs they expect to be at 4.
  19. Voted Teddy as it's the most likely option for game 1. If we draft a QB, they'll probably sit until after our bye week. If we trade for DW (which I still think it possible) he may not be able to play week 1. Like other posters have said, I think Darnold is the most likely non-Teddy option as a week 1 starter at this point.
  20. I wonder if he's the individual Rhule is referring to in his "elevator ride" story. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/01/26/matt-rhule-says-an-elevator-ride-with-a-prospect-eliminated-him-from-consideration/
  21. Is he a franchise caliber QB? Yes? Then yes, I still want him. Innocent until proven guilty my friends.
