CJ Stroud will be the pick. Bryce Young ceiling is Alex Smith. While Bryce Young football IQ is thru the roof, he has a noodle arm and slow release which will limit him to being a game manager and not an elite QB. People who comparing Young to Brees, completely disregard Bree release time and zip on the ball. Brees could uncork 60 yard lob pass similar to Russell Wilson which Young can’t do. NFL models predicted for Young to be successful in NFL would need to be surrounded by top OL at all times to compensate for lack of arm strength.

Young will flop in NFL. They plugged his intangibles into a model and model predicted him struggling at next level.

So compute models say Young style of play does not transition well in NFL

Young’s Alabama film rates him the best college QB in this class, per computer vision. There is some extra volatility in projecting him to the next level, though. When his feet are set and he’s on platform, he ranks in the top 15 percent of my 10-season sample -- and he can get his feet set under duress. However, he had one of the longest times to throw while not under pressure last season (3.02 seconds, per PFF, ranking T-153rd). When you look into why, you’ll see he dropped back farther on average than the rest of the top passers in this class. Looking at QB comps from past drafts, passers who consistently had deep dropbacks have not fared well at the pro level unless their O-line -- specifically the tackles -- are able to hold off pressure well and recover when a rusher has a great second (or third) effort. Fortunately for Young, landing in Houston means he'll have the recently extended Laremy Tunsil protecting him for the foreseeable future.

Everyone is a scout in March and April after watching only good plays on YouTube.

Just go back to Charlotte. What a game. Second period was so weird. The energy was sucked out off PNC arena but half way thru 3rd the crowd got back into it. Awesome win and amazing experience. Better than panthers game by a mile in my opinion.

I’m on Stroud train. I was on Bryce Young train prior to last season but watching CJ just so calm, picking defenses apart is just different to me. He can also flick ball 70 yards down the field and his release time is amazing. If you watch Young throw, he don’t have the same zip on the ball and his release time is not the same. He moves in the pocket well but I’m not sure this will translate well in NFL. He reminds me of Alex Smith.

CJ will be the pick. You simply cannot pass on a guy who threw 4+TD passes in 7 out of 13 games last season. Bryce threw 4+ TDs in 3 games last season.
