We still lost to the Bucs and we would most likely not have made the playoffs because Tampa won’t sit everyone for their last meaningless game. Also, let it go. We needed a once in a career Hail Mary throw from PJ just to tie the game with 12 seconds left. Amazing how people blame the refs and yet don’t realize how lucky we were to score the TD.

Did Tunsil play his fourth year of his rookie deal as the reigning MVP for under $2M? Did Tunsil also play his fifth year without an extension? Did Tunsil get his extension? Apples to Oranges. Lamar royally screwed the pooch. An agent would have told him that as smaller running QB who has already been and MVP would not play the last rookie year or the fifth year without an extension. Lamar cost himself probably $40M and he still doesn’t have a long term deal.

Get ready for Derrick Browns next contract…..
WhoKnows replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wasn’t Bozeman supposed to get $10-12M on this site? $16M seems reasonable considering Simmons has accomplished way more so far. Brown is around Vea but again Vea has better sack numbers considering injury time. Vea also has been to a pro bowl. Looking at DT contracts, Brown might get less than $16M like Bozeman. That would put him just outside the top 10 DT salaries. If he wasn’t pick 7, would he be thought of as just about top 10? No pro bowls or all pros. Low sack totals. I like him but I think someone in the 11th to 19th area makes most sense and that’s $10-14M per year. Rankins got about $10M a year and stats wise he was similar in his 4 years as Brown was in 3 due to injuries, but he had 16 sacks to Brown’s 6 sacks. If we go above $16M that would be a big overpay IMHO because he isn’t an elite top 10 guy. If we get $10-14M a year that seems about right. -
Polarization right now won’t come close to the level it will be at if the one we take turns out to be just OK and the other leads the Texans to a SB win. Might as well lock this place up and throw away the key. There is of course the chance we make the right pick and it works out perfectly, but that type of hope is not available yet.

Not serious at all, just a tad confused when it went to Madden.

BJ Ojulari is scheduled to visit the #Panthers

That’s not what I meant about the WRs. Remember when we drafted DJ? We were worried DJ or Ridley wouldn’t make it to us and they were both available. Same with Burns at 16, no way he gets to us. The top WRs this year aren’t close to the guys who’ve been going top 10/15 the past few years. I could easily see one or more of the WRs assumed to go in the first drop to 39. That could happen easily if we get say a TE run and more go 1st round that mocked. We hosted JPJ for a visit. There are always more people mocked for the first round than there are actual first round picks so we’ll have to wait and see who actually falls to 39. I still agree that edge or TE would be my vote because I think we could get guys who in a vacuum would be ranked much higher in normal TE/edge years rather than reach at WR/CB this year to get one that next year would be a later 2nd pick. DJ was still a good pick for us even though it was a weak WR class because we got the first WR in the 20s. -
I feel like you completely missed the reference in my post and the post I replied to.

I tend to agree. That said, 39 should just be BPA. For whatever reason, I think one of a CB, edge, WR or TE who has 1st round value (especially in other years at edge/TE) will be there at 39. We still have plenty of holes to fill. CJ, Donte, YGM/?, Thielen, Chark and Hurst are all replaceable and/or not long term options so we shouldn’t pass over true BPA for any of them. -
Was there a sticky note with Anderson no matter what on it? If so, we’ll have no problem getting DJ Putney and all our picks back too.

It’s awful to think about. QB wise: Picks - 2 firsts, 3 seconds, 1 third and 2 fourths (got a 6th back for Teddy) Cap - over $60M plus the rookie deal CB wise: Picks - 1 first, 1 third, 1 fourth, 1 fifth and 1 sixth Cap - $36M for Donte plus the rookie deals To think that we spent all that for Horn and Young/Stroud and a gaggle of easily replaced guys. $100M in cap and 3 firsts, 3 second, 2 thirds, 3 fourths and a couple more. SMH.
-
Scary to think of how much draft capital (and Donte’s contract) we’ve spent in recent drafts including two trades for picks and the only faith people have is in the CB picked 8th overall, who has missed significant time including our only chance at a playoff spot in years.

You aren’t wrong. Lawrence even says in the article that he knows people will read into his statements. It’s comical how the Internet tough guys act. The best part will be if we take Young instead of CJ after all the talk about CJ being better than Lawrence.

Lol, your bravado is kind of funny. Here’s and SI video: And here’s and article: https://www.si.com/nfl/2021/04/14/trevor-lawrence-magazine-cover-story-daily-cover I’d love to see what you “watched” because SI’s article was in a magazine and the video didn’t have much of the quotes in it. When you were shooting from the hip what gave you your opinion of Lawrence and be careful when you “watch” to make sure you aren’t using his wife’s or high school coach or someone else’s quote. Personally, I understand what they all were saying and I’ve never seen anything in his play that showed anything bad. I think he showed a ridiculous amount of heart in the playoff game after such a bad start. I believe him when he says in the video that he dreams of winning a Super Bowl. I think you may have gotten caught up with SI wanted to stir the pot a bit (that quote wasn’t in the article) to sell magazines. Or maybe you want a guy with a huge chip on his shoulder like say, Baker Mayfield who thinks everyone was against him.

Thanks for me not having to post the same thing. One person says he’s entitled and the other said he doesn’t love football. It’s amazing the hoops people jump through here. It’s as if they have to downplay some people to make their guy look better. I wanted Lawrence so bad and honestly, I think he’s going to have a great career. I can only hope the guy we pick does as well and will be a top QB for years but I’m not going to try to make our guy look better by saying something untrue about Lawrence.
-
Exactly. There are millions of fans that watch the game. The handful of fans who are flying in for games that are inconvenienced pales in comparison to having good games that most fans will tune in for over Arizona versus Oakland when both teams are already eliminated. Most people that attend games aren’t flying for games anyway. I’m kind of surprised by most of the responses in here that wouldn’t rather have a solid game on Thursday night.

What I hate is the “most talented” and “highest ceiling” as if stronger arm is a talent but accuracy or timing or ball placement or whatever you want to call is isn’t a QB talent. That mental and physical ability to throw a proper/accurate pass is a talent IMHO. I personally don’t think AR has the highest ceiling because of accuracy issues. The pass he back flipped on is only completed if his WR is wide open and his OL gave him enough time. PJ Walker has a strong arm and he had a highlight throw to DJ that Mahomes said was the best pass of the year. PJ is a terrible NFL QB.

Panthers still have $23.5M in cap space
WhoKnows replied to neverlosethefeeling's topic in Carolina Panthers
Kelce was a 3rd and Kittle was a 5th. There’s no secret sauce to know exactly who the next Kelce will be but the TE class is as deep and good as it’s been in many years. Also, if we get a Witten, we should be so lucky. Here’s an article for you: https://theathletic.com/1067715/2019/07/10/19-in-19-13-jason-witten-a-true-iron-man-and-so-much-more-than-the-lunchpail-cliche/?redirected=1 It’s funny because there’s an assumption in your post that a CB, ILB or Edge are guaranteed. As if Eli Apples and Gauldens and Donte Jacksons and CJ Hendersons don’t exist. When a position is historically deep it just means you have a much better chance of getting great value. In a great TE class, a guy available at 39 is likely a 1st rounder other years. That’s how you get value and excel at drafting when your picks are limited. Edge is similar, very deep this year, which was another reason I was good with trading Burns. If a top edge guy drops, I’d be fine as well. -

Why do I only see those images as a blue question mark? I typed in ; ) without a space, not a real emoji. -
Watch Kyle Shanahan turn Darnold into a Pro Bowler
WhoKnows replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well, if he doesn’t get hurt and they challenge that catch, it’s a different game. Don’t know if they win but once he was hurt they had 0 chance. Even I was wondering why they didn’t challenge since it was game changing and it looked funny. Just use a timeout to at least see it because if it’s not a catch it’s a punt on 4th instead of a TD. -

Just an FYI, the LOL was directed to the SNL image, not at your horrific level of knowledge on cap analysis. -

Will actually be an interesting QB competition. Purdy did well, but you saw flaws late in the season and in the playoffs. Lance is a wildcard as is Darnold. It wouldn’t surprise me if any of the 3 win the job. -
Panthers still have $23.5M in cap space
WhoKnows replied to neverlosethefeeling's topic in Carolina Panthers
Lol, it’s really simple TBH. Remember when everyone was crowing about our huge 2024 cap space? It was at one point over $100M available. It’s now at $40M according to Sportrac and we don’t even have a full team there like Burns isn’t under contract yet. It’s kick the can and it’s not hard to do but it does mean that we really don’t have gobs of space available like some people thought. We’ll just keep having to restructure yearly. That’s good in that it’s easy to do and bad because it’s not like we are signing tier 1 FAs. It all still boils down to rookie QB and the rest of the draft. We have to start pulling multiple winners so we have Chase and Higgins instead of Thielen and Chark. Pulling a Kelce or Kittle or Andrews at 39 would be a great example of what would change our ceiling. -
It would be nice to strike gold with the 2nd and get a Kelce/Olsen/Kittle. Still unbelievable we took Gaulden one pick before Andrews when Olsen got hurt and missed most of 2017. Just one example of Hurney boning us by being too loyal to players. I like Hurst way better than the rest we have but I’d love to get a rookie too. I just don’t think the WRs that will be there at 39 are the same class of WRs in other years. TEs at 39 are likely much better values unless there’s a huge TE run and all WRs fall.
-
Yep, I don’t want him to fail but the 1000+ yard expectations just feel like those people who thought Teddy would go for 4000 and 35. It feels like his targets will be limited compared to last year with only DJ. Rookie QB (crossing fingers) will help, but we added more than DJ and I’m not high on Marshall. If we saw Marshall like we did with all the images in 2020 of DJ being wide open and Teddy not seeing him, we could call a breakout. Ignoring his 7 missed games, Marshall was WR3 in 2021 and WR2 in 2022 with minimal CMC games and no TE receiving threat so we should have seen Marshall was open here and there with his lack of targets if he was really getting separation. We didn’t and that’s why I don’t predict a breakout. That’s why I was so all in on trading Burns knowing we’d likely trade up for a QB. I wanted those picks to build an arsenal of receiving weapons and insane OL around the rookie. TE draft looks great this year and Rams blowing up after Stafford gets hurt gets us Harrison Jr (hopium), we pull a solid WR2 with some other pick and also add OL depth/stud IOL to improve on BC, etc.
