Thursday joint practice news and tweets
LinvilleGorge replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Signing Erving and Elflein so early in FA to decent contracts was baffling to me. Those were the types of guys I expected to go for cheap after the primary wave of premium free agency was over. I was hoping we'd targeted them because we'd seen something specific they had. But, it seems like we're pretty much just flailing at OL and that's disappointing. -

I'm with you. This isn't college where you have a massive roster, linemen take 2-3 years of development then you only get 1-2 years of actual good play out of them before they're gone to the NFL or gone due to expiring eligibility. This really feels like a college approach to the OL. -

We've invested heavily in the secondary in recent years. Jackson, Horn, and Chinn represent two 2nd round picks and a top 10 1st rounder. Compare that to our investments in the OL. I expect our OL to suck but I expect our secondary to start looking like they belong. -

Pick your five best bad guys and let them start gelling. -

As expected for the OL and DL. Disappointing for the secondary. -

I'd feel better if we had some semblance of a lineup in place. These guys need to have as much time as possible to gel. That we still seem to be in the midst of figuring out who's gonna be playing and where is concerning. -

Isn't the majority of Indy's starting DL sitting out today with injury? -

Hmmm... looks like they're serious about giving Moton looks at LT. Well, either that or Erving is banged up again... which should make them VERY serious about giving Moton looks at LT. -
The bust rate argument also doesn't hold up when you trade for an actual draft bust. The failure rate of bust reclamation projects is extremely high.

I just haven't seen this staff out the required urgency into finding a QB. They seem hellbent on trying to find a bargain at QB while building the rest of the roster.
-
I just think it's a really, REALLY bad move to pass on a guy you had valued as a franchise QB because you made a trade for Sam Darnold. I don't have much faith in this staff figuring it out at the NFL level if that's what we did.

I mean, do they really have to come out and say it? -
Nah, I think the Terrace Marshall pick would've been Kellen Mond or Davis Mills instead.

Cam Newton, Steve Young, Kurt Warner, and Troy Aikman
LinvilleGorge replied to SBBlue's topic in Huddle Lounge
Yeah, it's all Cam's fault we didn't win a SB with him. I mean, he could've done more than just carry our entire offense. Lazy bastard should've been playing defense too! Is he too busy worried about his outfit to to kick and punt?! -
Honestly, yeah. I think we still take Horn.
-
This is where I'm at. You don't pass on a a QB at #8 who you would've taken at #3 due to trading a 2nd, 4th, and 6th for a bust reclamation project. I know that burns people up to refer to Darnold as that, but right now that's what he is.

Well, wouldn't that just be par for the course. -
If the rumor was true that Tepper was pushing for Fields and he looks promising while Darnold flops... man, it's gonna start getting really uncomfortably really quickly inside that building.
-
We'll see, but I've been saying it for awhile. I have legit concerns about our staff's ability to evaluate the QB position. Teddy was baffling. Darnold honestly is too. We keep putting all of our QB eggs in long shot baskets. Hopefully the Darnold one works out, but odds are against it.

Yeah, Fields was a stud in college. That doesn't mean that will translate to the NFL, but to insinuate he didn't live up to expectations just isn't accurate. He was always basically considered the #2 QB in his class behind Lawrence and that's what he proved to be in college too. Honestly, Rhule's teams never excelled on offense, period. His teams were always driven by defense and I'm kinda starting to wonder if Phil Snow isn't the actual engine that drove Rhule's success. That guy impressed me working with what he had last season and I honestly thought that he would prove to be in well over his head at the NFL level. Brady was basically what I assumed. Showed a lot of promise but also showed some room to grow situationally. Snow was the one making chicken salad out of chicken poo. Everyone expected our D to be at or near the bottom of the league, so to finish middle of the pack was significantly overperforming vs. expectations.

Nah, I just think Cam was a gamer. Honestly, he never really looked great in camp or preseason. Same with Jake.

We had this "conversation". You're just trying to re-derail this thread again. Stop. Look at the conversation. It's been cordial. Don't fug it up with this same drivel again. That's all.
