He didn't "flip the switch", he just took the next step in his development - namely cutting down on turnovers. Darnold has a LOT further to go than Mayfield ever did.

I like Wilson a lot, but going to the Jets is like the kiss of death for a QB. Baker Mayfield has so far overcome the Cleveland curse, we'll have to see if Wilson can do the same in NY with a MUCH bigger spotlight on him.

What Are the Chances of Sewell Actually Dropping to us?

No clue. -
Peter King has us taking Justin Fields
LinvilleGorge replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
No comparison. Watson is a young proven high level NFL QB. Fields is an intriguing, talented draft prospect. Watson is a lot more valuable. Well, WAS. -
It means we made what we felt was the best move at the time. If we didn't think a QB would be available at #8 then we had to do something, but if a QB we do like at #8 is available we should still pick him.

Just imagine if for some reason they had convinced themselves that the Jets were going to stick with Darnold and they made that trade expecting to draft Wilson. I mean, that's absurdly far fetched but it'd be fuging hilarious.
-
There's zero chance of that but damn if it wouldn't be hilarious. I just think it's dumb they're trying to play coy. They've already made their trade. It's not like they have any reason to be posturing.

I'm hoping for Fields to be available and to be a Panther.

A bet that requires you to follow me around like a puppy dog liking all my posts just seems lame. Nah, I'm just never gonna bet against my team. Even though I very seriously doubt Darnold works out, I hope the guy is the SB MVP next year. That'd be sweet. And since Winston plays for the Saints, I hope he throws all the INTs and no TDs.

I'm in favor of paying good players at premium positions or elite players at non-premium positions. Shaq is the type of re-signing you can't make. You can't pay good players at non-premium positions elite money.

Drafting Horn would sting, especially at #8. He's basically a Bradberry clone. Could've just re-signed him. Re-signing Shaq over Bradberry will probably always chap my ass.

Honestly, this line of reasoning would make sense IMO. Back in the days when head hunting safeties were roaming I'd be a lot more worried about his lack of weight. These days though, I'd the pads pop the flags fly. It doesn't really even have to be a hit that's illegal under the significantly revised rules. Pretty much any big hit that would've been featured on ESPN's jacked up segment back in the day draws a flag today. They're definitely trying to take hitting out of the game in the secondary. Fug you if you're a RB though. LOL!

My confidence in them in this regard would go from low to non-existent.

If he's there I would hope so. -
To be fair, right now our "process" of finding a QB resembles Ray Charles pitching horseshoes.
-
He was simply saying the ideally you'd have the best of both worlds. If they think that's what Fields is then he'll be the pick.
-
I'm simply comparing them as draft prospects.

A 3rd round comp pick for a 24 year old MVP winning QB? Yikes. Nah, they'd trade him for a very significant haul. The only reasons I'm saying they should consider it is 1) his heavy running style will likely eventually lead to injury issues and 2) his trend of poor playoff performances is becoming concerning.

Man Sacrifices Brownies to Save Wife From Rabid Bobcat
LinvilleGorge replied to Dex's topic in Huddle Lounge
And here I thought the video was going to show a man throwing young Girl Scouts to the mercy of a rabid wildcat allowing his wife to escape unscathed. -
I've seen UNC WR Dazz Newsome mocked in the 6th a lot. That'd be a steal. Think Curtis Samuels type versatility without the world class speed but with more polished route running skills and much better natural hands.

Same ultimate decision maker on paper.

Apparently these were almost our uniforms

Honestly, it's always a terrible time for fashion. Being super fashionable and trendy at any given time just means you're going to have some really cringe worthy photos down the road. -
The Jimmy Johnson Trade Value Chart
LinvilleGorge replied to theinstrumental's topic in Carolina Panthers
Recent trades at the top of the draft have been blowing traditional draft pick value charts out of the water. IMO, the new rookie wage scale has drastically altered the value of those picks. You're no longer paying those guys as if they're one of the best players in the entire league before they step foot on an NFL field. For the talent level, you're getting tremendous cap value out of those picks while also not mortgaging the future of your franchise by saddling yourself with tremendous cap liabilities on a talented, albeit unproven NFL prospect.
