We're still in the licking our wounds phase of the picking up the pieces of our plan while other teams are actually implementing theirs. All I'm saying is that it's looking more and more like we don't find the long-term answer at QB this year and the half-ass bandaid approach can't be tried again. Swing a hail Mary for this year or it's onto '22

The options are evaporating rapidly. We were all in on Watson and it blew up in our face. I don't necessarily blame us, who could have predicted that? But, this is why you don't go all in on one option when there's so many factors involved completely beyond your control.

Folks, I think the ship has sailed. We were all in on Watson and then the unthinkable happened. Meanwhile, other organizations had already moved on and were working on other plans. It's time for us to do the same and I doubt the answer is coming in 2021. On to 2022...

Some things are bigger than football. You can't go get Watson until you actually know you're not bringing a sexual predator into the building and community. Especially this organization. You can't make that move after the NFL just snatched the franchise away from JR for significantly less than what Watson is accused of doing.

This has felt like quite the Hurney off-season. Overpaying some mediocre players expecting them to be better than they've proven. Taking risks on guys with significant injury histories. Planning to outsmart the world then watching everyone outmaneuver you while laughing. This all feels very familiar.

My concern is that I see a plan in place to finish somewhere in the 5-11 to 7-9 range. That's purgatory.

It's just a different game. With a hard cap and hard set draft order, having the deepest pockets isn't a huge factor in winning in the NFL and that's what makes the NFL so great. It's not like MLB or NBA where only a small handful of teams are going to compete year in and year out.

Rolling with Teddy would be the most lackluster, gutless, chicken poo move we could possible make. Go big or go home. It's time to swing a deal or it's time to properly tank. No half stepping.

The Dolphins got their haul for #4, now they're getting themselves back into position for what if the top two or three non-QB prospects.

49ers trading up to number 3 with Miami!
LinvilleGorge replied to joemac's topic in Carolina Panthers
That's my thought too. I'm sure they had a discussion with the 49ers. They want more... or they're drafting Wilson. -
It is what it is. I'll take a good and proper tank job over another year of... "fug, we sucked but we didn't suck quite bad enough to land a QB who can turn the tide"
-
Not really. The writing has been on the wall for quite some time that #8 was likely going to be too low. Now it's just all but confirmed. My biggest hope right now? Just don't panic and reach on Mac Jones at #8. For the first time in this franchise's history, we might have to actually get strategic about the future. If we can't (or aren't willing to) get to #2, then we probably need to be positioning ourselves to get Howell or Rattler in '22. If the right QB isn't there at #8, take the best trade down offer on the table and push all the chips to 2022. It's not like Panthers fans aren't used to wasted years.

Yikes. QBs going 1, 2, 3 virtually guaranteed now. #8 is too low. -
Well, there went the size concerns. I thought Lawrence was a lot bigger than that for some reason. I thought he was 230+.
-
They just realize they might be able to get a decent trade return out of him
-
It's not that simple. Minshew isn't a FA. We'd have to trade for him.
-
The fact that Will Grier never saw the field last season and only occasionally even saw the active roster tells you all you need to know.
-
I'd venture to guess that the interest is very real. At least in terms of due diligence. Especially with the Jets starting to at least throw out some messages indicating that they may seriously be considering sticking with Darnold which would presumably potentially put the #2 overall pick on the auction block.

Go on record. Who still wants Watson?
LinvilleGorge replied to Sasquatch's topic in Carolina Panthers
No way do I want Watson right now. There has to be a lot of clarity come to this situation before I'd even think about bringing him into the fold. -
That'd be my bet too.

Teddy has had six years to prove himself. We're soon to be the fourth team to decide he's not a starting caliber QB.
-
Bingo. This organization has historically shown zero understanding of positional value and a lot of fans look past it because we've drafted some very good players at low value positions and that has played a significant role in why we've struggled at positions of higher value like OT, CB, and until recently WR.

Since 2000 we have made 19 1st round draft picks. 5 of them have been LBs. If we drafted Parsons, that would mean that nearly one third of our 1st round picks during the 21st century have been LBs. I agree, that makes no sense.
-
Sam Mills, Dan Morgan, and Jon Beason all predated Ron Rivera. Spending huge resources at LB has resulted in us fielding some great LBs. It has never contributed to building a consistent winner.
