QBs could go even higher than expected in the draft
LinvilleGorge replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
We're going to turn the NFL on its head on draft night. We're just gonna submit a pick for the QB we want before we're actually on the clock. Everyone above us is gonna be so shook by the "winning culture" train coming through that they're just not gonna make their picks until we get our guy at which point the draft will resume normally. -
I feel like a Howard Dean scream would've really capped it off right

When you don't really know what to say so you just throw out tough and scrappy cliches to the point of embarrassment. Could you imagine being a grown ass man and professional athlete and realizing you gotta play for that guy? Yeesh... HS players would be rolling their eyes about that crap.

That's what I'm saying. I think Nagy is their biggest issue. They signed Foles to compete with Trubisky and while Foles is no world beater, he looked completely awful in Chicago. It wouldn't shock me if Trubisky pulled a Tannehill elsewhere. His agent should get him TF out of Chicago.
-
I don't think Watson is going to demand big money in the least. His agent should be trying to get him somewhere other than Chicago though. I think Nagy is basically another Gase.

Yeah, if I had to bet money on trade location the Pats would probably be the top of the list, Niner second. I'd say the Bears would be contenders but I don't think they'd trade him within the division. Rams could be sleepers.
-
Yeah, it's rebuild time for them. They need to convert Stafford to draft assets and start over and actually allow him the opportunity to do the same.

Bum fights. They don't pay the "fighters" and they don't charge admissions. They make their money off of YouTube monetization. That let's them skirt regulatory commissions. Eventually someone will get hurt and they'll likely get sued out of existence. But, until then, enjoy the bum fights I guess.

If you trade for Watson, you cut Teddy as a post-June 1st designation. You have two per year. You use them in Teddy and Short.

I really need to address my jerseys. I no longer have the jersey of an active player. Multiple jerseys each of Peppers, Delhomme, Smitty, and Cam. Would like to go back and add TD and Olsen. Will buy a Moore once he signs his second contract. And Tepper, if you're reading this... if you trade for Watson or draft a QB in the 1st, I will IMMEDIATELY buy not one but TWO jerseys!!! Big money! Putting my wallet where my mouth is! LOL!

I still think dude would've been a stud had that ACL not happened. By all reports he was the best looking player on the field that training camp, including that the joint practices. Ultimately with the seemingly obvious work ethic issues I don't think his success would've lasted, but I could definitely envision a David Boston type brief greatness from him.

Watson - #8, '21 1st rounder, and CMC. I say CMC because I think the Texans would highly value some star power in return for Watson. Their fanbase is gonna be PISSED. They'd need a new face of the franchise and CMC would give them that. A DJ Moore or Brian Burns wouldn't bring that same star power. Stafford - #39 and next year's 2nd. I'd be willing to sweeten the pot a tad with an additional mid-rounder if necessary. I just can't justify parting with a 1st for a 33 year old QB. The issue is that a team more in "win now" mode very well may be. I'm looking at the Niners as a strong possibility here. The Rams could potentially low key be a player here too. Goff just isn't that guy and I think they're probably to the point of accepting that.

On Matt Stafford and the Carolina Panthers
LinvilleGorge replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think that's a great comparison, but yeah, it's probably the best recent comparison. I think Stafford is viewed as a definitely level or two above Smith though. -
We're going to see some moves made that helps out cap considerably. Short is as good as gone. If we made a move for Watson, so would Teddy. It wouldn't shock me if Paradise is sent packing. I'm not sure if Shaq will be here beyond next year. If he is, I expect his contract to get renegotiated.
-
Yeah, it would be. But what are our realistic odds of landing a top 5 NFL QB with that pick? Probably really low. Hell, extrapolate that out to include '22 and '23 first rounders. Probably still pretty low. If we package those three picks together though... pretty damn high.

It's not even close. Stafford has 4x the yardage and over 5x the TDs. Stafford is a legit starting QB. Teddy is a backup. -

Hell, Stafford might be an upgrade over Teddy even if he was throwing left handed. -

100% agreed. The interviews are HUGE. Especially for QB prospects -
I'd do my due diligence. I'd be scouting the hell out of these QBs and I'd also be having preliminary conversations with Houston and Detroit to determine the viability of working out a deal. I'd also be having preliminary conversations with teams like Miami that may potentially be willing to move down. Gotta explore all options and not go all in on any Plan A. Don't be Mike Shula.

You serious? You actually think Teddy is equal to Stafford? -

I don't like spamming picks like the Lions did at WR for years before finally landing Megatron. This is a strong class. There's a very good chance that there will be a very good QB not named Trevor Lawrence come out of this class. Do our homework and figure out who that is and go get him if we're not going to make a move on Watson or Stafford. That's my take. I just don't like our chances of things falling our way if we sit tight at #8 but we'll see. -

I really wish just drafting a QB was a safe solution. There are more hits than misses and at #8 we're probably looking at best at the 3rd QB off the board and quite possibly the 4th. We'll need considerable luck for it to fall our way. -

Stafford is a good QB who has been stuck in a terrible organization. I would definitely prefer Watson. He's better and he's younger but he's also going to be considerably more expensive on the trade market. Watson's market is speculated to be three #1s or the equivalent. What would Stafford's market be? Honestly, I'm torn. Not sure whether I'd rather make a deal with Stafford or take a chance in the draft. Really wish I knew where Wilson was likely to go. If we have a realistic shot at Wilson, I'd prefer that. But Wilson may be a pipe dream if we're not willing to trade up. If Detroit is definitely moving on from Stafford, you can pretty safely pencil in a QB to Detroit and they're sitting right in front of us at #7. We could be about to watch another Herbert happen. -
Charlotte Pipe and Foundry asks to rezone property

Mental gymanstics aside, actual economic analysis from actual economists have to my knowledge universally concluded it's a losing proposition for municipalities.
