  1. It's odd to me to think that the Fields concerns are based on racism when one of the guys who has evidently leap frogged him is another black QB who has played the weakest college competition of all the top prospects with probably the second best comparative supporting cast vs. his opponents' and who pretty much looked like The Golden Calf of Bristol the last time we saw him on a college field. Just saying...
  2. I still haven't really done any digging on Lance, but I definitely agree on having Fields behind Lawrence and Wilson. I was pounding that Wilson drum back in October.
  3. The bad thing is that he had three years to adjust and hasn't.
  4. That's one thing I can't account for. If we pass on him due to character concerns then so be it.
  5. Except he's not basically a rookie. He's a guy who has played three [terrible] seasons in the NFL as a starting QB. He's probably started more games at QB in the NFL than any of the incoming rookies we're talking about have started games at QB in college.
  6. It's a sunk cost. If you bypass what you seem a better option due to the sunk cost of a trade that involved relative peanuts when considering the importance of the QB position, then I think that's peak dumbassery. We had to strike out several times to arrive at Sam Darnold. We were hell-bent not to roll with Teddy. We did our homework and deemed that the QBs we valued at #8 wouldn't be there so we made what we deemed the best option available for us at the time. If it works out that we were wrong on how the draft board would fall and one of those QBs we did value at #8 is there, he should absolutely still be the pick.
  7. I like Horn, but damn that'd be a disappointing pick at #8.
  8. Virtually all receiving TEs spend a lot of time split out in today's NFL. All the chest thumping about "pro style offenses", but the college game has been the driver of innovation in the game for quite some time now. The modern NFL offense is a lot closer to a "gimmicky" college offense that would've been scoffed at years ago than it is the venerable "pro style offense" of the '80s.
  9. Wait, I thought we were just talking about guys drafted since 2010 per the link you were spiking the football over?
  10. I mean, he was literally the best bad option left. All that Darnold moved screamed was that we absolutely were NOT rolling with Teddy again no matter what.
  11. No you haven't. Now you have your choice. Roll with the rookie or stick with Darnold. Trade the other. Or if we didn't pickup Darnold's option, let him walk and take the 3rd round comp pick.
  12. As I've laid out many times and right above, it's not just my opinion. Several other options had to fail for us to trade for Darnold. That's reality. I'm not going to engage in mental gymnastics to try to convince myself that we planned all along to end up with Sam Darnold.
  13. I don't think he was as high as #3. Watson seems clearly #1. Then we made a significant trade offer for Stafford. And it was reported that we at least reached out to Miami about #3 overall.
  14. Rings are the only indicator of success? Either way, now do the same for former top 10 busts on their second team...
  15. Joe Person reported after the trade that the Panthers were picking up the option, so take that for whatever it's worth considering the source.
  16. He was the best bad option available at the time and we are expecting the QBs we would like at #8 to not be available at #8. Hence why Darnold's presence should have no impact on what we do at #8. If a QB we like but didn't expect to be available is available, draft him.
  17. It makes no sense because we're keeping our options open. If they're bluffing they shouldn't have been openly talking about how they planned to pickup the option.
  18. Like Sam Darnold is? Top 10 picks probably have a lot higher success rates than former top 10 pick busts bouncing back elsewhere.
  19. Bingo. That's all I'm saying. Darnold should have zero impact on what we do with the 8th overall pick. If we were truly sold on Sam Darnold we wouldn't be stalling on picking up that 5th year option.
  20. Because I was wrong about Herbert after saying he had all the physical tools due to what he showed at Oregon? And now their new QB has transferred to escape their training wheels system that made me highly doubt Herbert in the first place? Okay...
  21. I'm gonna mock you relentlessly if (likely "when") we're in this same situation again next year.
  22. Pitts is generational as far as TEs go. He's probably the most dynamic TE prospect since Vernon Davis. I'd consider that generational.
