"Near certainty" Burns will be tagged
LinvilleGorge replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
I mean, what's left to talk about? He and his team have their number and we're not willing to go there. Probably not even close to it. When they first started talking extension it was reported that Burns wanted "close to $30M per". If I recall correctly it later came out that Burns was looking for $27M and we were at $23-24M. With the bump in cap, I get Burns is on $30M now and after this past season the Panthers are probably getting cold feet on $24M. -
Officially Entering My Vote for WR Keon Coleman

Exactly what I was thinking reading through this thread. It was reminding me of the mental gymnastics folks were doing to convince themselves that pairing KB with a worse version of KB in Funchess was a brilliant approach. We were basically running a three TE offense. -

The way it was handled was the worst possible option on the table. We were coming off a Super Bowl run. We approached FA like Norman would be here. We tagged him leading the locker room to believe he'd be here. Then we yank the tag because Gettleman was more interested in winning dick measuring contests than he was in assembling a football team. That forced us to spam picks at CB just to field a secondary and sent the entire locker room in a tailspin of WTF just happened??? -

Par for the course. I mean, we've handled nearly every situation in the dumbest manner possible ever since Tepper bought this franchise. -

Tagging him is definitely the right move with the big cap bump. But I'd definitely be prioritizing tag and trade as option #1. There's no way I'm giving Burns the contract he wants after last season when he disappeared for games at a time and openly admitted to basically mailing it in trying to not get hurt. If he threatens to hold out and you believe him then trade him for the best offer available and just move on. -
Ginn had terrible butter fingers but he still opened up the offense for us because you had to respect that he can blow the top off your D.

Oh, I'm sure he's not gonna be throwing to bums but both those Texas WRs are gonna go on the top 50 picks. Hell, they might both go in the 1st round. Thats a lot to replace.

Gonna be interesting to see how Quinn Ewers does next year. Losing both his starting WRs are they proved to be FAST. The faster of the two running the fastest Combine 40 ever and the "slower" one running 4.35. I mean... DAMN.

Law of averages. Shoot lights out in the 1st, go cold in the 2nd.
-
Not necessarily. Lots of lucky rolls, contested makes, etc. Sometimes the other team just makes shots no matter what. We've been dealing with a lot of that lately.
-
Our defense has dropped off for sure but teams are just shooting lights out against us right now. Everyone.
-
Every opponent has been like this for awhile now. Bad shooters shoot well, good shooters shoot great, and great shooters shoot like Steph Curry.
-
For the last few weeks it feels like every team we play shoots like the Splash Brothers from three. It's getting old.
-
It definitely seems like the Combine is fading as an event. Practically none of the top guys are participating this year.
-
Oh snap, Adonai Mitchell just ran 4.35. Leggettenran 4.47. Solid time but definitely not the high 4.2s/low 4.3s he was said to be running at SCar. Keon Coleman runs 4.64 and 4.62. Fast enough for a possession guy but he clearly won't have plus speed in the NFL.
-
Vikings HC sounding very non-committal on Kirk Cousins. They legit might let him walk.
-
Blake Corum just ran a 4.53. That's good for him. Anything under 4.6 IMO would've alleviated some concerns for him. Low 4.5s definitely checks the box.

Here come the Redskins (*nothing piece MSN article)
LinvilleGorge replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Commanders name sucks but you can't go back to Redskins. It's just a blatantly racist name. Like the Cleveland Indians where the mascot was like a 1950s style racist caricature. I can see something like the Chiefs working. It feels more reverential and celebrating vs. a caricature or a racist slang word. And something like the FSU Seminoles definitely works with their longstanding relationship with the tribe.- 80 replies

Very possible.

Kyler Murray is far superior physically. He has a good NFL arm and is one of the best overall athletes playing QB in the NFL today. They're just not comparable at all. Bryce's ceiling might be Gardner Minshew. Just think about it this way. If Bryce was a mid-round pick instead of a #1 overall trade up pick, is there any doubt that we'd be looking to move on? Bryce is the guy this coming year based on draft status and the investment we made in him. That's pretty much it.
-
But why was Young considered by so many to be the #1 QB? It never made sense to me. There were red flags EVERYWHERE with the guy. His size. His arm talent. His footwork. Everyone just got so enamored with the person and the idea that he was such a football savant that all the red flags wouldn't matter. I got heckled every time I brought up the questions pre-draft. Oh, so all the football experts are wrong??? Yeah.

Marvin Harrison Jr skips his media presser

I think he is in a different league as a prospect compared to Chase. A lesser league. -

Going off NFL.com prospect grades he's not the best WR prospect this year by either measure. If you go back over the past decade he's probably barely top 10. Excellent WR prospect, no doubt. Definitely not "generational" though. -
Wake me up when a Lincoln Riley QB doesn't kill it. Williams has super intriguing talent. He has a helluva arm, is a good scrambler, and a GREAT thrower on the move. My big concerns with him are the diva attitude and that he holds the ball forever. Like FOREVER. I think he's complete boom or bust. He's gonna be great or he's gonna be a bust. I don't see a lot of room for gray area in between. Either his game will translate or it won't.
