Just curious. How do you feel about Sammy's vs Teddy's deal?
LinvilleGorge replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
What if one of your top QBs is actually there? You still gotta take him and now you gotta deal with Darnold. -
No money, no move in. It'd be a question for an attorney, but if you let them move in you might be facing having to legally evict them if this falls through.
-
I might be misremembering, but I think @Ja Rhule is Indian or maybe his wife is? There's something there.
-
Discussions continued. Evidently they've been ongoing for weeks.
-
Go for it. All I'm gonna say is that it's likely to end up about the same way - disappointing. That's how dumpster diving usually ends up.
-
Did he? His two best seasons in Miami he was 5th and 6th in most sacks. Darnold was 19th, 19th, and then 9th this year.

The big issue I have here is the timing. If we made this deal after striking out at #8 I'd be alright with it. It just feels like we're making a desperation move before we should be in desperation mode. -
The upside here is that Darnold has more physical ability than Teddy. If he works out, great. If he doesn't, he has a lot bigger bust potential than Teddy did too. I just hope it's one or the other. Light it up and be the answer or suck it up and get us Howell next year. No half stepping please.

Where he looked FAR better than Darnold has ever looked.
-
He played six seasons in Miami, not two.
-
What happened after that for Tannehill? I mean, since we're not cherry picking...
-
The good ones still find a way to look good. Mayfield has had four head coaches in three seasons. He still went 6-7 as a rookie throwing for 3700 yards and 27 TDs in 11 starts with his head coach being fired mid-season. The good ones find a way to look good themselves even when the situation is a dumpster fire.

Darnold has more physical talent but Teddy is the far smarter QB. If you could combine the best assets of both you'd have an elite NFL QB, unfortunately alone they're both trash. Sorry. -
Tannehill had two 4000+ yard seasons in Miami and another just shy of 4000. Darnold barely cracked 3000 once. He threw for 2200 yards, 9 TDs and 11 INTs last year. He wasn't just the worst starting QB in the NFL, he was the worst by miles. Him working out here would be an all-time career rebound.

Yeah, at least it won't be boring. If he's as bad as I expect we'll be in the mix for a Howell or Rattler next year.

Good Breakdown of Darnold’s College Film
LinvilleGorge replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't really care about his college tape. His NFL tape has been atrocious. When your only selling point after three years is raw physical ability... well, you're officially a bust. Very few bounce back from it. The David Carr pathway is the norm. Hopefully Darnold can tap into his potential here but history says it's a long shot. -
I always hedged my bets with Herbert though that it very well may have been the system he was in. I always said he had the physical tools. Those coaches treated him with kid gloves and now their starting QB is transferring, probably because of that same approach. Darnold has been atrocious. Yeah, he's been in a bad situation but he was a big contributor to that bad situation.

Fully expecting this move to predicably be a disaster. Hoping I'm wrong but I'm not gonna sit here and do mental gymanstics to try to convince myself it's a smart move.

we were the only ones who wanted sam darnold lol
LinvilleGorge replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is sooooo reminiscent of the hope last year when we signed Teddy and it's largely the same crew getting duped again. -
Foolish is getting out-negotiated into trading three picks for a guy literally no one else wanted. The Jets had that Rosen trade in mind because they knew they were holding similar trash.
-
All I want are smart moves. This is just like the Teddy move. We're acquiring a trash QB hoping desperately that he won't be trash for us. These moves usually turn out predictably. History isn't on our side here.
-
Talk to me in '22 when we're short a 2nd and 4th still looking at QBs.

I strongly disagree with this. Less trade compensation would absolutely make the predicable a lot more palatable. -
Sorry man, but when the team makes poo moves I guess I'm gonna have poo takes. I'm not gonna sugarcoat my opinion with fan colored glasses.
-
Hell, I hope you're right. I just think there's a very slim chance things play out that way.
