The are going to play man and bring 6 or 7 on every play. The TE, CMC, and I expect to see 88 step up today--he will have their worst DB covering him. Cam can't hold the ball---and we need to run it. Screen passes are nice in this situation as well.

Happy Thanksgiving! What Panthers related thanks are you giving?

I am thankful for the fact that we have a GM who is aggressive and trying to make deals. I am not going to judge him after 1 year--he knows we need an OL and MLB and maybe a FS. He will re-sign Cam, Reddick, and the rest of the offseason moves will tell us about him. -
This guy exposed Brady a few times--calling the first run pass option a college play then questioning the play calling late (in so many words).

foot injury? I bet we do not see him until after the Falcons game--so in about 3 weeks.

He had 7 solos and 10 combined vs. the Vikings. I was like, "There he is."

Good news for the wine and cheese crowd.....

Does that Label really have "Bling, Bling" on it? Should come with a rag to wipe the vomit off the bling. -
Hypothesis: Carter is a backup LB and his numbers prove it. Carter has 10 solo tackles over the last 5 games. He is playing Mike LB. To put that in perspective, Luke (and I am not saying he has to be Luke; this is to put his play into perspective only so you can see the difference) Luke averaged 6.4 solo tackles per game his Rookie season--Carter averages 2. Since returning from injury, Shaq Thompson has averaged 4.75 solo tackles per game. Jermaine has 54 combined tackles over 11 games this season (Luke had 164 combined tackles his rookie year), 29 over the last five games--about his average. Over 5 games then, rookie Luke would have had 32 solo tackles and 51 combined tackles. Your Mike needs to make tackles. I have added stats for Shaq Thompson's last 5 games (he was injured for a bit) to give greater insight: Solo tackles over 5 games: Carter 10, Thompson 23 (over his last five games), Rookie Luke 32 (average for 5 games) Combined tackles over last 5 games: Carter 29, Thompson 36, Rookie Luke 51 (average for 5 games) While Carter finds his way to assist tackles at a decent rate as indicated by his combined (assist + solo) stats, he is weak in the solo tackle area. Solo tackles often happen in space, and Jermaine is not making plays in space. For Carter to make tackles, he needs help. He is a gang tackler I guess you could say. I was talking to former Tar Heel, Miami Dolphin and Indy Colt Linebacker Dwight Hollier recently and he described tackling Barry Sanders in the open field. He went on to describe the art of tackling in the open field vs. in the fray on the line of scrimmage. He said that he just guessed with Sanders, and made the tackle because he guessed right. He said, "it is the test of who is the better athlete--mind and body--when you are tackling in the open field. I feared Sanders, so I guessed. That means I miss the tackle 50% of the time or even more. I got lucky." When I watch Carter, I see a person getting caught up in traffic, taking bad angles, and whiffing a lot in one-on-one situations. He is not terrible--for a backup he would be good. I have read people on the Huddle say that he is serviceable or doing OK. No, he really is not.

Yes. Yes it is. Hallelujah

I found this quote to be interesting since BC's athleticism was off the charts. Not sure who said that (Rhule?) but I question it.
-
Well, he was not vs. Chase Young, but I thought he played well. Maybe he had time to reflect after his first stint at LT---who knows? This is about the time of the year when the game should slow enough for a rookie to start getting it.
-
Slye will be able to say that in 9 stadiums this year.
-
Good news: Brady C did a good job. Thought he did, but was not that pumped considering he did not face Young-but an 81 is solid. If we can get a few more of those, we could have QB and LT settled before free agency/draft. Big If.
-
I saw him getting mauled--bull rushed into the QB many times. So if you don't see it, it could be that you didn't see it--not that the grading is screwed up.

How does this Cb situation play out going foward?
MHS831 replied to WOW!!'s topic in Carolina Panthers
I still say LT in round 1 IF Cam is re-signed, which means that he played well. While Morgan, Beason, and Luke were first rounders, we were talking about possible free agents. I dunno, but I am a believer in that Alpha MLB--maybe just old school. -

They really do---so having 7 stud CBs should not be the way to go...I do not see Nixon, Roy, or Hoskins in that second DT role yet. We may try to re-sign Jones? -

How does this Cb situation play out going foward?

Of course, much like a pass rush and stuffing the run game helps DBs. But this defense gets gashed on occasion, and this franchise has valued MLB- Mills, Morgan, Beason, Keuchly--all ring of honor candidates. So I think positional value at MLB is important to any defense. Carter is playing below average, and well below the standard in Carolina. If you need statistics, Carter has 41 tackles this year. 4.1 tackles for a MLB is not solid. After 10 games, Morgan, Beason, Luke were usually in the 80 range. Donte Jackson, FWIW and to compare, has 33 tackles--nearly as many as our MLB. Carter's PFF rating (take it for what its worth, but you can use stats to defend him if you'd like) is 48.4. So I disagree. MLB needs to be addressed this offseason. 4 tackles per game is below average We need our MLB making 6-10 tackles per game. -
The reason teams do not do this: 1. Timing with WRs 2. Exchanges (center, RBs) 3. reps at practice 4. Rhythm

You have to see the big picture, that is for sure. I agree. Everyone approaches this like a kid in a candy store, but Fitterererer has only so many nickels in his pocket. Jax is injury prone and you would be paying him after his best year by far. He is probably a future comp pick. Priorities Reddick (DE/OLB) Possibly Cam (QB) Offensive line (RG, LT) Free agents Middle Linebacker free agent Free Safety free agent Tight End free agent We are blessed at CB, and the money should not go there, to be honest. Henderson, Horn, Bouye, Taylor, Hartsfield (N)---with Pride, Thomas Oliver behind them--is a CB tandem most teams would covet. -

I heard rumblings (probably from some cracked up Huddler) rumors about Gilmore moving to FS--I think he and Pride might be able to transition to S with some degree of success. -
How does this Cb situation play out going foward?
MHS831 replied to WOW!!'s topic in Carolina Panthers
The core (youth) is going to be Taylor, Horn, and Henderson and they should be cheap for a while. We need to keep a veteran (Jackson or Gilmore) for a season or two, giving us 4 starting caliber CBs. Remember, we have Hartsfield at Nickel, and he has been solid. This is a good question, and Jackson may want to break the bank with this contract. What about Moore? (5th year) Reddick? potentially Cam? Free agent OL? We are going to lose a veteran CB or two---maybe all of them. -
Your reaction in Gifs when Cam comes through tunnel

Not really, but I thought I'd play along. I will be pumped to see what he can do, but my expectations are tempered. There are a lot of questions to answer. -
Tracking Games this week and playoff push
MHS831 replied to 95Panthers4Ever's topic in Carolina Panthers
We have 3 "must win" games coming up (Washington, Miami, Atlanta) before we get New Orleans, Tampa Bay x 2, and Buffalo. We have to win all three and split "murderer's row" to lock down a playoff birth. It is possible, if we play like we did Sunday. -
Rivera was good every other year with Cam in his prime. Without him, he would be the LB coach in Detroit. Nice guy and all that, but we did not pay him millions to shake hands and kiss babies.
-
Basically, Cam would be the wildcat with the read option and the ability / option to throw, give, or keep. As much as I have always wanted him not to be hit, if he is smart about it, he can do this successfully.
