  1. Raanta and Kochetkov should have their pictures on milk cartons- they go missing every time you need them. And, they're both perfect examples of why an investment needs to be made in a top-tier net minder. We know the Avs will score at least 3 because Raanta has to give up his usual gimme.
  2. Going with a D-man against the Avs tonite. Brady Skjei.
  3. Canes will need to be better than 2 goals against the Avs. Georgiev has a save percentage as bad as Kochetkov, so this could be another 6-4 game like their first meeting in October.
  4. Vancouver is a legit cup contender and, like Boston and NY, the Canes have to find ways to win games that are 1-1 or 2-2 late in the game. Last night, I think, is how the Canes season will ultimately end in the first or second round.
  5. 9 SOG well into the 2nd? Missed the game to this point- may get home for the 3rd....
  6. Canes going against one of the best goalies in the league right now and their typical pattern of shooting perimeter shots from distance will not win this game. So, a net front presence will be required and a couple redirects or tip-ins off rebounds will be the difference. Accordingly, what does Carolina do with their best net front goal scorer? Bury Noesen on the 4th line. That's gonna come back to haunt them.
  7. Churches are a business just like any other. Customer service is typically sub-par and getting someone to call you back is asking way too much. My opinion, but maybe just the atheist in me coming out. Anyway, as LG suggested, just go and talk with them. Here is the best advice I can give you from a first-hand perspective. Both my in-laws have passed in the last couple years and none of their final wishes have been kept or met by any of the family. Specific requests for services or final resting place or internment- none of that was respected or carried out by the family. Although my wife is the oldest and was the executrix for both her parents, her aunts, uncles and brother all basically ganged up on her and she acquiesced. The only thing that was done accordingly were the cremations. And I'm sure there were those who wanted to sidestep that as well. Any way, here were are almost 3 years later and my in-laws are tucked nicely in their respective little boxes in the guest bedroom closet of my house. Mom passed first- very unexpectedly- and she wanted her ashes to be spread at the beach. Dad was next, a year later to the day almost. In the year since Mom passed he bought a double columbarium vault at their church for them both to be placed, which was totally against Mom's wishes- the beach and all. But Dad wanted to be put in the vault with his wife. I'm a little pissed that my wife hasn't fulfilled her mother's wishes. I told her to take some of the ashes and we'll spread them at the beach like she wanted. The rest can go into the columbarium with her Dad, fulfilling his wishes. Although I am pretty anti-religion and have my own thoughts, I do respect other people's faiths and beliefs in that regard and I find that not fulfilling someone's final wishes is pretty disrespectful. I mean, they ask one final thing of you and you can't even do that? I know, tldr, but put forth your best and honest effort to make this happen for your brother. I think you'll disappoint yourself if you don't.
  8. I met Carl Weathers in 1980 in Oakland, CA. It wasn't that long after Rocky 2 and he was still is major condition for that movie. I was 24 at the time, in the Navy. Dude just looked huge to me, and I'm 6'6". Very nice guy, personable and enjoyed having a conversation with a handful of us. Of course, it was back in the day before everyone seemingly wanted a piece of fame. No paparazzi, no autographs, selfies...
  9. I live in the county and options are limited. A few months back I cut the cable from DirecTv and am totally streaming now. There were some hiccups and I called my ISP, got an upgraded modem/router and I have no problems at all. I did look into 5G, but unless you have a cell tower in your backyard, the same issues that plague DirecTv in bad weather also hamper 5G service, and the further you are from a tower, the worse the issues are. Given the price difference between what I have now (working fine) and 5G, less than $10/month, I'll stick with what I've got.
  10. Diggs is a guy who can stretch the field. That being said, with BY's arm and his career 5.5 avg yards per pass, "stretching the field" in Charlotte is 7-12 yards down the field.
  11. Just a thought.... They keep Kochetkov in the AHL for the remainder of the regular season and keep Martin as the backup until Freddie is ready to return. (How many back-to-backs are left on the schedule?) Martin makes way for Freedie when the time comes and Kochetkov gets to avoid waivers. Remember the rosters expand after the TDL and again in the playoffs. At this point, there is no penalty for either Martin or Kochetkov because they are under contract. The only possible loss would be if the playoff games count towards Kochetkov losing his rookie status.
  12. Best case scenario is he's able to rejoin and get some time on the ice about a month before the playoffs start.
  13. No way I am even suggesting a move for Laine. Like I said, he's ruined each of the teams he's played for.
  14. CMC had 100 scrimmage yards at the end of 3 quarters. Ended the game with 90 rushing and 42 receiving, 2 TDs.
  15. What's the over/under on how many times Taylor Swift is on camera? Travis Swift with 3 catches- Taylor Swift with 2 camera shots.
  16. And the officiating was absolute garbage last night. Staal went down a couple times with holding and interference non-calls; Aho was as close to a break away when he got hooked and no call. The embellishment call on Bunting may be one of the worst I've ever seen. And, if I'm being very objective, the Canes played a pretty clean game, considering Lemieux had several opportunities to drop the gloves and didn't. Arizona was frustrated they could barely penetrate the O-zone and they started hitting guys behind the plays and after the puck was gone. The Canes should have had about 8 power plays last night.
  17. Looks more like a shove instead of an impact hit with extension of the arms. But that shot by Orlov is as good as you'll ever see that deep in the zone. Especially since it went far corner in front of the goalie's face. Slavo's shot in Game 2 of the Islanders series that tied the game went off the goalie's helmet ricocheted between the helmet and post. Remember the Stastny shot in OT of the Islanders Game 6 series winner? Orlov.... one more time....
  18. Standings going into the all-star break: BY9Franchise needs to change his username. The whole franchise thing with Bryce Young is now but a debunked conspiracy theory. You're much better at picking hockey players than football players. Anybodyhome- 4 Harbingers- 4 BY9Franchise- 4 Panthers Fan 69- 2 WelshPanther- 2 DamnitJake!- 2 DavidEng- 2 MillionDollarCam- 1 ------------------------------------- Gotta jump off the Jarvis bandwagon waiting for him to score an opening goal. As long as he's stuck on the 3rd line with Staal and Martinook, it's not gonna happen.
  19. My last game for about a month. Next game I have tickets for is Florida on 2/22. Headed out in about an hour. Supposed to be a rainy start to the game.
  20. Canes under the radar, or, in case you haven't noticed... Necas playing defense? Believe it or not, since he's come back from injury, there has been a noticeable effort in his defensive game. Sure, couple brain farts here and there, but maybe he's finally figured out with his speed he's got a great back check. And his quick hands are snatching pucks off opposing sticks lately. Lemieux playing bodyguard? Is it just me or am I hearing his name more and seeing his game more? He has definitely ramped up his physical presence the last several games and has even brought some offense to the ice. He had a couple very good, strong, clean hits on Coyle and McAvoy in the Boston game and exchanged pleasantries with a few of the Devils as well. Chatfield gonna get paid? Guy might be one of the best 3rd pair d-men in the league. He's got the speed to nullify icing calls, make up ground and wins board battles. I love watching this kid play defense. Dude has a $762.5k salary and probably should be making TDA-level money ($1.7M). Question is, will the Canes pony up or will they try to keep Skjei and Pesce and sacrifice Chatty? Bunting moving in? Michael has 31 points and will likely match or exceed his 49 points from last season in Toronto. He may not be putting many pucks in the net with 10 goals, but his assist numbers will easily surpass last year's. He's quietly doing the work and, at the end of the season, I think we'll see a 55+ point season. Noesen playing to stay? Another guy on the roster who is showing up every game and grinding in front of the net and below the goal line more than anyone else not on the Staal line. He, like Chatty, is on the bottom of the salary food chain with his $762.5k salary. Another guy we have to ask- is he going to stay or will he be sacrificed to keep Martinook or Turbo?
  21. https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2830537/report-jackets-will-listen-to-offers-for-laine-provorov It appears the Columbus Blue Jackets are open for business. General manager Jarmo Kekalainen is willing to listen to trade offers for forward Patrik Laine and defenseman Ivan Provorov, reports TSN's Darren Dreger. Teams are also very interested in captain Boone Jenner, but the Blue Jackets are highly unlikely to move him, Dreger added. Laine's season has been riddled by injuries and inconsistent play, as he's been limited to just six goals and three assists in 18 games. The sniping winger also had an unsuccessful stint playing center. The 2016 No. 2 pick averaged 37 goals per 82 games during the first four seasons of his career with the Winnipeg Jets. Since joining Columbus during the 2020-21 campaign, he's averaged 30 goals per 82 contests but hasn't played more than 56 games a season. The 25-year-old is signed through 2025-26 with an $8.7-million cap hit. Provorov, meanwhile, was just acquired this offseason from the Philadelphia Flyers as part of a three-way trade involving the Los Angeles Kings. He's recorded 23 points in 46 games for Columbus while logging 22:48 per contest. Provorov has produced strong underlying offensive numbers, but his defensive metrics have been poor. ----------------------------------------------------- Laine's game is something to behold when he's on, but what a trainwreck for a teammate. Any lockerroom he's in is a mess. Couple that with a very down season and the Jackets are carrying an $8.7M salary thru the 25-26 season. He's on IR now.
  22. Saturday night with the Arizona Coyotes. Last game before the all-star break and the Canes currently riding a 2-game win streak against Boston and NJ. 15 points in their last 10 games (7-2-1) has them 2 points behind the Rags, who are visiting Ottawa tonight. The Rags are on a 2-game loser streak and are 3-6-1 in their last 10. Let's fire it up before heading into a much deserved break. Canes have a massive home ice advantage the rest of the season with a lot of home games. 23. Have to give Raanta credit for his game last night. Neither of those goals were really on him. The first was just a very good play and pass to the man on the weak side. Both Chatfield and Orlov were caught too deep, Chatty was actually below the goal line and Orlov came in- nobody had Dowling standing 4' away. Orlov and Chatty both had their back to the puck when the pass was made. The 2nd... well... with 8 seconds left just hold the puck and freeze it on the boards or dump it cross ice and run the last 8 seconds off. That was on Necas. One other note... I did notice that Martin moves laterally much quicker than Raanta. His reflexes are quicker.
