  1. Actually there are several strategies to shut down a great offense with stud receivers and good defenses know these. How many yards did Kelsey get in their superbowl loss to Tampa in Superbowl 55 ( 31-9). Yeah Kelsey had 10 catches for 133 yards which is great right. But no TDs and only a few first downs and Hill had 73 yards. So they shut them both down from scoring which is the point. If your offense puts up 400 yards but only a few points you are going to lose. Belichick will often target the number 2 receiver with their best corner and double your number 1 guy. The point is that Football is a team game and the goal is to shop the opposition from scoring. But he isn't the only coach who uses the strategy of targeting the defense to shut down players. Many coaches will let one receiver get his catches and then shut other folks down knowing that one player can't carry the offense and the goal is scoring points not counting yards or catches. How about in 2005 when Smitty reeked havoc on teams and Seattle often triple teamed him because we had no other stud receivers and no running game. You can shut down any player you want as long as other guys don't step up.
  2. If you have a guy like Thielen you have a reliable 3rd down option. Having a huge stud at WR which is where you go all the time can be shut down easily enough if the defense keys on them. Then you need other guys to step up to take the pressure and keep teams from shutting down key players. Belichick loves to face teams with only 1 or big WR studs. He shuts them down and makes other guys beat you.
  3. If you think about it receiver by committee means you can't shut us down by concentrating on 1 or 2 players. Instead of 1 1400 yards receiver we might have 3 guys with 500 yards a piece. Instead of a negative it could be a positive.
  4. Seems most of the city's money that they have earmarked for Bof A is from the tourist taxes on food and hotel stays. It isn't taxing city or county residents unless they start talking out bonds the city has to pay back. What am I missing?
  5. Evero is already making a lot. Money won't be why he jumps, it will be to be a HC. Then again being DC on this staff might be better than HC of some teams.
  6. No doubt. He will be a candidate for HC and we better have someone in the wings learning the system.
  7. I had a Kerry Collins jersey but I burned it. I have a Kelvin Benjamin jersey and a signed Dwayne Jarrett because I thought they might be good. Had my D'Angelo Williams one but the way he left I burned it too.
  8. Reports were that multiple players had career years for Denver in Evero's first year in his new system. Apparently he makes the transition easy and knows how to maximize each players talent. If he does the same thing here this will be a top 5 defense. Apparently he is good at developing depth guys into decent starters as well.
  9. For that matter you could include 1996 as well given that we rode Capers 3-4 to the championship game on a great defense.
  10. Having been here watching games live since 95, the music doesn't matter as long as you can dance to it. Seriously, we dance for diamonds, flex, do the wobble and the rest. That is window dressing. The music I love is when Cam dabbed and got love from the crowd as he airplaned around the field. It was the sweet crunch of helmet to pads as Thomas Davis put the hurting on an opponent who coughed up the ball. It is the cacophony of Luke cheers after he gets to the runner before the poor guy can take a step or intercepts another pass for a pick 6. What we have been missing is tough physical play where we intimidate the opponent. The fans feed off the players which then fuels players to play even tougher. Wilks reminded us of who we used to be. Now Reich and Evero and Thomas need to keep their pledge to making our offense and defense aggressive dictating to our opponent. Outside of 2015 have we ever done that on both sides of the ball?
  11. I haven't heard many folks that think the transition will be difficult. We brought in folks up front who have played in a 3-4 and guys like Shaq have played in one under Rivera. We do have the personnel to run it. The bigger issue is how comfortable the players are running it and can they play without overthinking things.
  12. I know that everyone is excited about the offense but how well we do this year will be based on how the defense does. If we want to make noise this year we need to be a top 5 defense. Historically teams go deep in the playoffs due to a dominant defense.
  13. It is up to the team to provide exciting winning football to get the crowd going. It isn't the fans job to get the players excited. Fans pay lots of money to be entertained and players make millions to entertain the fans and get them going. Your suggesting it is the fans fault attendance is poor and the stadium is full of opposing fans. If you want fans not to sell their tickets then win more than 2 games out of 8 on offense. The fans I know and fellow PSL owners are loyal and start out each year hoping for good results. Since 2018 we have suffered as the product on the field was abysmal. But we will be back in force for Atlanta again. But if you want us back every game give us something to root for. It is up to the players not the fans to get the stadium rocking. Otherwise if we keep losing expect by mid-season to see more opposing fans. We are long suffering fans but we aren't Job, we have our limits.
  14. https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2023/07/04/panthers-ejiro-evero-fast-aggressive-defense-chuck-pagano/ One thing I want to see is how aggressive this zone coverage will be. Historically it hasn't been.
  15. If you were here during Cams early years you saw the stadium rocking. Fans here are like elsewhere, they are paying a lot of money for a good product on the field. If they get it, they are very excited. If not then it will be like the past several years, crap everywhere.
  16. https://vikingsterritory.com/2023/news/analysis/thielen-forecasted Without Jefferson opposite him, the fantasy prediction is for a big drop off. With the goal to spread things around, will it matter a lot that we don't have a definitive number 1? Last year he had over a hundred targets and caught 70 of them. Thoughts on whether we go to him more or less..
  17. He won't. It is a myth that you can't gain muscle while staying flexible. https://fitandbendy.com/can-my-body-be-strong-and-flexible-at-the-same-time-yes/

  19. https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2023/06/03/can-carolina-panthers-make-the-playoffs/ They say we have the worst wide receiver corps in the league. Seems the last time they said that about us we did pretty darn good.

  21. https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/gm-report/panthers-2023-roster-bubble-wide-receivers Byrd is the word. I thinks he makes the 53.
  22. https://www.nfl.com/news/panthers-rb-miles-sanders-almost-every-running-back-is-underpaid-right-now His 4 year 25 million signing was the biggest in the offseason but it is well below what top backs got in the past.
  23. Next year you can make the argument we overpaid for him when his cap hit goes to 10 million if he doesn't put up big numbers but his cap hit is only 3 million in 2023 which is pretty small. And cap hit is all that matters. Tepper has tons of money but still has to fit it under the cap.
  24. You are right they did have a plan which is run the ball. They had more rushing yards than passing yards. You are right that Andrews had the most targets but that likely reflects Jackson's limitations as a passer rather than a design. Tight ends caught more balls because Jackson was liimited in what he could throw. That makes you tight end friendly by default not design. In 2020 Baltimore threw for even less yards than 2019 and Brown was the leading receiver not Andrew's. Part of the reason Andrew's got 700 yards was because he didn't have to share with any other tight ends. And again out of 2700 yards TEs accounted for around 1/3 of all passing yards. So no Baltimore wasn't tight end centric by design.
  25. In 2018 Baltimore passed for 3550 yards and all 4 tight ends accounted for roughly 1000 yards They had 235 passes and tight ends had 86. Snead, Crabtree and Brown were wide receivers who all had more yards than Andrew. Sorry but if your best tight end is 4th in catches that doesn't make you tight end centric by my definition.
