  1. I like this thread but it could have been better if it wasn't focused on cam. Nothing against cam, he's a legend and should be HoF, but he's done. He's history. Move on. I'm going to start this thread over
  2. i think even then it would HAVE to be a part of a balanced offense....not the focus of it. it's just not as crucial as other components and doesn't require an elite talent there. CMC was just too much of the focus, but when you have that talent, you feel like you have to take full advantage of it. it just, by the nature of the situation, forces your offense to be out of balance. let someone else have that issue to overcome.
  3. Few can do what CMC can do. and not all RBs can pull off what Foreman is doing. the thing is, like we said, you don't need someone that can do what CMC can do and there's enough RBs out there looking for a job with more reps that you can keep trying and not have to spend too much capital to get them who can give you the production that you need from the RB position. There's enough that you don't ever really have to draft one early or even really trade for. Get everything else worked out and you can do more with less with an RB. When you've got everything else worked out, you can afford to add some kind of elite talent to RB, but really it's a luxury commodity.
  4. true. he's got that kind of talent. doubtful he's got the durability to pull it off.
  5. Because of the excitement and production that comes from a good run game, RBs have always been highly valued by fans and many teams. The truth is that they get beat up a lot and it doesn't take a lot to replace production. People want a star RB that you keep for years and years, but it's just not necessary because there are always younger and cheaper options out there. You may not find elite talent, but RB is a job that you don't really need elite talent. It's better to focus your attention on QB and OL because once you have those in place, everyone else will produce more. It's tempting, once you have a really good or even elite talent there to give them extensions, but you can be sure that you will be overpaying for a position and a player that will be breaking down much sooner than later.
  6. it sucks losing a star, sure-fire HoFer RB. but considering the money tied up in him, the fact that he gets hurt a lot, and that we got a good few picks for him....i think it was worth it. we might not ever get another RB with that level of talent, but do we actually need one with that level of talent? the picks we go for him are going to go a long way in bringing in the talent we need to rise above the mud we've been stuck in for several years.
  7. locking thread because 1) trade deadline is past so the whole conversation is moot. 2) some people can't keep tinderbox arguments inside the tinderbox. and if they keep doing it, they'll find themselves having to create other accounts that i'll have fun shutting down each time i see one. understood?
  8. yeah, this team and this coach doesn't want to quit. i don't blame them. losing sucks. it might be a good strategic move from some perspectives, but for people involved whose livelihood and sense of pride is on the line, losing is no good.
  9. going to be hard to tank if the guys put in any effort to win.
  10. there's just something about Levis that makes me go...
  11. Play as good as we can now. Win as much as we can now. And get the best QB we can in the draft.
  12. Keep him for another year or two.
  13. all that said (and yes, I'm quoting myself), The OL is the only thing I wouldn't trade away. Everyone else has a price...if you're offering multiple first round picks,
  14. Starting OL is set, but I'd love to see us add/improve our depth. wouldn't want to mess around with any of the starting pieces we have right now...and that means keeping Boze at center. I feel good about the WRs. There's plenty to build on in that corps. I wouldn't be opposed to adding more talent, but i think it would be best to focus capital on other positions and just work on developing these young guys and giving them experience. Mainly DJ, Shi, and TMJ. Keep Foreman. Keep Chuba (but don't expect him to catch the ball). And add another RB to the group, but don't go overboard trying to find someone. we don't need another CMC. we just need someone that is going to push the chains and it doesn't take much to find someone to do that with this OL. TE....meh. Aside from Tremble there isn't much to like. Really need to invest here, especially if we are getting a young QB. We need another Olson/Shockey type combo for at least a year. QB.... I'd like for us to draft one of the top picks for next year, keep Corral, and I wouldn't mind at this point keeping PJ around just for the lockerroom, but i'd rather us get a more experienced vet QB to help mentor the two young QBs. If I had to name a group of guys i'd consider to be the "core of the offense...I'd have to say all of the current starting OL, DJ, and that's it. All the rest are pretty replaceable, but if we can avoid gutting the WR room and just adding depth to the OL, and even building on the RB room we've got, I'd be happy with retooling everything else. On defense, Burns, Brown, Chinn, Horn, Luvu, and possibly Shaq (who is better than what we give credit for). I'd like for us to see McCall get more action and experience. I think Woods is solid experience. Cj has potential (but he's also got a lot of potential for costly mistakes). But aside from those first 5-6 I listed, i think we could definitely stand to build around them Those guys are pretty much the core of the defense.
  15. rather him than either baker or darnold.
  16. i am warming up to the idea of maybe bringing PJ back. not as a starter, still want us drafting our guy, but i think he'd be good for the class room and locker room.
  17. if it helps us get him...i don't really mind as long as we do.
  18. i like stroud a lot. he's not the type QB i was hoping for, but to be honest i was looking for the next Cam, but that ain't happening. Stroud and Young are both way up there and i'd be happy with both. Young can do it all and he reminds me so much of Wilson in his creativity and mobility...at least the way Wilson was. Smart and creative and quick in his decision making and he's a terror as a passer and a runner. makes for some exciting play. Stroud, though, he's a passer...but he's so freakin good at it. he's the best that there is in this class for sure. he's nice and mobile in the backfield and can really make things happen from anywhere. He's not a runner, though. Some think that he could be but he looks so awkward when he tries to run downfield you kind of get why he doesn't do it so much. he may not be as "exciting" as some of the other QBs, but i think he could make this team into a winner. Peeps that want an old school traditional QB would probably be happy with him, but i ultimately don't care what kind of QB he is as long as he wins and i think he would.
  19. i can honestly say that i have no curiosity in the slightest about what darnold can do. same with baker. roll with PJ. up or down we roll with PJ. i'm not interested in finishing out the year with a QB merry-go-round. unless he gets hurt, PJ.
