New Pod: Panthers Confidential recap, OTA/Roster analysis
rayzor replied to ellis's topic in Carolina Panthers
Looking forward to listening this weekend. Thanks for putting this together and out there for us. The more panther content we have, the better. -
I think two of the big problems with the transition has been 1) failure to adapt to a different game (though it's still fundamentally the same game and pro level is starting to look more like the college game do that's less of an issue). Probably a bigger problem has been 2) a disconnect with someone accustomed to dealing with young players vs. long term pro vets who, as time goes on and for lack of better wording, become entitled. Leading and motivating those two groups takes different skill sets. But look at what has happened to the roster. It's young...very young. Essentially all of the old guard is gone. With the exception of maybe CMC, DJax and Shaq, who has been around for more than a few years? Instead of stepping into an established culture, they have the opportunity to create a new culture with young players. And if Fitt and Rhule are as good at identifying and developing young talent as it appears or as advertised, there's no reason we wouldn't be able to constantly churn the roster and keep plenty of room on the cap, keeping only a few key players long term rather than being desperate to keep as many players as possible forever. If Rhule and his staff work better with young talent, they should be able to keep that roster filled with young talent.

Yep, this is what he does and he does it well. If it was just one team, you could argue a flash in the pan but it wasn't. What he does was very evident to anyone paying attention and I'm just glad we got him when we did.

For me it's been a breathe of fresh air. Both Rhule and Fitt fit the young, progressive, and analytical model I've been dreaming about for well over a decade. I'm all in because I'm seeing the things I was hoping I'd see. They've been unpredictable in a lot of ways which has been invigorating. This is a panthers team being put together and run totally different than anything we've seen before. I'm not expecting immediate be success. What I expect is a leadership that is constantly working to improve what they do rather than hold on like a pit bull to some ancient style of doing things. A big thing for me is they aren't afraid to recognize and move on from mistakes and in that they instantly become better than anything we've had before.

he's going to have to create another account if he's going to do that.

there isn't much better on this planet. that stuff is addictive. the spicier, the better. give me a side of red coleslaw and i'm in my happy place.. -
That's your take? Lawdy you got problems.

Keep pounding, little man and hang in there Olsen family. Prayers have been said.

And there's that movable goal post. Panthers win..."but they wouldn't have won without the defense!" You're going to be a fun one to troll when Sammy doesn't suck. One of three things will happen when we start winning with Darnold ranked from least likely to most: 1) you eat crow 2) you try saying you were always a believer and just taken out of context when you realize you can't edit your posts to say differently 3) you just don't show up or create an alt and abandon this account all together to avoid embarrassment.

Probably a great comparison. Great OG, reliable OT. I'll take it over the poo we've had to deal with for years.

Our old selves and our decisions in rebuilding. That's our main rival. The biggest questions being asked isn't about if we can beat such and such team (maybe the jets because of Darnold or pats because of Cam). The biggest questions are can we be better than we were in the past and did we make the right decisions in the off-season. That's all everyone, including ourselves, have been talking about.
-
If I'm the falcons and saw his phone convo with Sharpe, I'd listen to where he wants to go and ship him somewhere else.

How much of the Jets performance was really on Darnold?

Fantastic research and post. Really puts things in perspective. Sam isn't immune from blame, but he was really put in an epically hellish situation...a true clusterfug. He never had a chance to succeed. -
Read it...and came to the following conclusions. 1) he's a hack writer (sounds more like someone trying to impress on a message board than a professional writer) 2) he doesn't like mobile QBs 3) he's a bitter TB fan 4) he's talking out of his ass

I think the biggest issue is what we have up to get him (2nd and 4th in '08 and 1st in '09). Hurney was a gambler and we lost Yes, there was no signs he would be injury prone or that he would not pay off, but he did only play 1 year of big time college ball. Dude was raw...a project. To give up so much for a project like him, you HAVE to be able to hit it. And Hurney didn't. That project blew up in all of our faces. It wasn't the injury that ended him, it was that the guy quit trying after he got injured. He just didn't care after he came back and didn't put the work in. Many people around the team at that time came to the same conclusion. Was he a "bust"? Don't know...don't care He was a failure. Drafting him when we did and giving up as much as we did was a monumental mistake hurney made that he kept repeating.

Ron "learning from his mistakes" in Carolina

With Cam and Rivera, we should have kept Cam and replaced Rivera. But with the ownership and GM situation as it was, we probably would have wound up in the same place we were before. -

I think there is something to that ,Andy Reid having not getting his ring until his 2nd QB after being the HC 6 years. I still think that the HC more often than not is the issue, but the HC/QB is something to really pay attention to. Just because an HC is winning a lot, and just because the HC/QB tandem might be doing well, doesn't mean it's the best for getting a ring. Just because they might have the best winning record the 5ean has ever had doesn't mean that it will be their best chance for a ring. It's a tough call, but if after 5 years you don't have a ring with the HC you've got it's time to re-evaluate, not give them another contract. -

Agreed. I think our OL still needs some help, but I think we're way ahead of what he had in NY/NJ. That line was baaaaaad.
