Ashley Fox article on Cam Newton

I like how this article acts as if Cam should just be turning any scrubs we decide to throw out there into All-Pro's, but when was the last time a quarterback had every wide receiver who caught a pass the previous season leave, heading into the final year of his contract no less? On top off all that also only adding one single starter (who missed all of last season) on the offensive side of the football since said quarterback was drafted by his team.

ok.....so the question is, can cam act like an ass to his new receiving corps and throw them under the bus consistently like brady did with his group of unknowns last year?

and we would want this why?

to the real question....i think cam does make the team around him better already and he will do just fine with his new group of WRs.

I hope this idiot isn't one of you:

Everyone knows the D for Carolina is the reason we made the playoffs. Superman was not the leader. The leader of the offense was veteran Steve Smith. Without Smith, I predict Carolina does not make the playoffs. The D can only do so much. (btw, Cam became more of a pocket passer due to his ankle bothering him)

I don't think this will be as hard as some folks make it out to be.  Didn't Newton do this fairly well as a rookie with no OTAs, no offseason and moving right into training camp.  Back then he was in a brand new system and didn't read defenses all that well.  Olsen was a new addition as was Shockey and LaFell was a rookie.  While he won't be throwing at least he will have OTAs and minicamp to bond which he didn't have with teams not reporting until the lockout was over.

Every year is a new year that Cam has to "prove himself." Lazy Journalism is lazy.

I've said this before, Newton will NEVER be able to prove himself. If he has 10 games with 100+ QB rating and 1 game of sub-40 QB rating, those that say the needs to "prove himself" will claim: "See, I told you Newton was not a good QB!" And proceed to mention the 40 game above all else.

lol go to a Dolphins board, you will never see one of their fans attempting to throw Tannehill under the Bus, same with the Bears and Cutler, or the Rams and Bradford, or the Lions with Stafford...

But we have PANTHERS fans talking about how overrated Newton is...

BTW, its worst on the Observer.

panthers win a lombardi..."sure, but can cam do it again?"

panthers win another...."sure, but can he win 3 in a row?"

cam retires after a HoF career....."sure, he was one of the best ever, but can he be a first ballot guy?"

no matter what he does, some will always have questions and doubts about him. i've accepted it and moved on.

So why all the butt hurt responses when people question Cam's ability to be able to make this group cohesive and productive.   It is a legitimate question which people are asking.  I think he will be fine but honestly it is legitimate for people to ask.  After this season it will be one more issue that Cam has mastered successfully.

Let people talk and speculate while Cam does his thing on the field.  We will all find out soon enough.

And there are other quarterbacks who get just as much grief as Cam.  Just ask Romo how many people question his every move.  How about Alex Smith and all the questions about his ability or lack thereof despite his success the past few years.

How is simply expecting our FO to field a competitive unit around our quarterback on his side of the football being "butt hurt"?

    • That's part of being patient too. Not rushing players into roles they aren't ready for. Make them earn it. If you convince yourself that "so and so" needs to start because they were a first round pick, even though they have done nothing to earn it, you have set up both team and player for failure. You can convince yourself all day long that "there is no substitute for game experience" but if the guy can't do his job in practice, he can't do it in a game. Not consistently, anyway.  Teams like the Steelers, the Ravens and the Packers ROUTINELY bench rookies to start off with and no one bats an eyelash. Even if the team is losing. Because that's what they do. They have set the precedent. The players have to show they are ready. Then they get their chance.
    • Let me provide you with some food for thought. Before this "now era" of the NFL, QBs were allowed time to develop. Everyone from the GM to the fans had more patience. QBs were simply better in the old because they were afforded the time to sit, observe and learn. It's no wonder that guys we threw away, or simply didn't want, have had varying degrees of success elsewhere.  Some Huddlers were talking crazy about Jordan Love and Lamar Jackson---just crazy...
    • I think the JAG debates are largely people having vastly different definitions of JAG.  The OG JAG LB debate was James Anderson.  And James Anderson is probably going to be ahead of Shaq on my alltime LB list (it's really close though).
