Tyler Gaffney Panthers Comparison

Yeah if he turns into a fullback for us, many said he has good blocking skills, then I can't complain about that.  That's probably why the Panthers drafted him.  Tolbert is a good runner, but he sucks at blocking.  Both Williams and Stewart benefited greatly from Brad Hoover opening up running lanes, giving them that extra punch on linebackers and safeties. (Actually when the Panthers were deciding on bringing Tolbert or Jacob Hester to the team, I was hoping for Hester because I felt he was a better run blocker)

He could basically fill 2 roles-in-1 if he goes well on ST and in blocking scenarios.  Not to mention come in if need be at running back if Stewart is bike ridden and Barner ain't looking too hot.

Look at my avatar.  Would you say from that I'm most likely a post Cam Panther fan?  I'm a hometown fan type, so me and the Panthers go way back.  Look at our team, look at our O-line, look at our offensive tackles.  You confident in that group?  In this case, we could have used a pick on OT in the late rounds, and yes they could have been starters for us. (History will tell you plenty of starting offensive linemen were taking late as well as early)  If you're a consistent playoff team every year, then yeah you can blow a couple of picks in the later rounds.  Yet if you have glaring needs, you can't afford to waste a pick.  Now as I said, if we were looking for a starter, not a back up, Gaffney is not the guy we should have picked up.  We should have went after a guy like Storm Johnson because he was better than Gaffney.  Someone said he had fumbling issues.  Bah, I'm willing to take the chance on that considering his skill set.

So, if Gaffney was brought on for depth, it was a wasted pick.  We could have gotten depth in UDFA or other teams cuts.  Yet overall, he isn't good depth.  He won't be a great runner in this league.  He probably won't even make the team if Barner improves even a little bit.

No, they couldn't have been starters for us.  Gettleman already said in his press conference that after the first four tackles were gone, they didn't project any of the remaining tackles in the draft were as good as what we already have.  James Hurt/Richardson or whoever you were wanting us to pick up in the late rounds and be a "steal" that somehow all 31 other teams passed on, could not have been our starter.

Stop lumping Gettleman in with Hurney's mistakes.  Last year we had what turned out to be an amazing draft, and a 12-4 year in Gettleman's first year, so while he hasn't had time to prove consistency, you can't hold that against him.  Go find me 1-2 Tackles that started on the left side in the last couple years, that were rookies and 5th round or later picks.

I'll add that I heard Mike Mayock talking about what a good value Gaffney would be while the draft was still in the 3rd or 4th round and runningback picks were scarce.

I love the Gaffney pick.  He's a much better athlete than people realize.  He's not a shake-n-bake guy, but he is going to surprise people with some of the cuts and cut back reads he'll make.  He'll finish well and he'll help protect the passer because he's actually very agile and he'll stand up to LBs up the gut.

This guy is a football player and he works his ass off.  I agree with the comments about Stanford.  That's a good program and they block for their backs very well.  But they also churn out very fundamentally sound tailbacks.  And, this one runs 4.49 at 220 pounds and is a high-character guy.

Easily worth a 6th rounder.

Sounds like Brad Hoover II.

some twatter pro, said he drafted for his biltz pickup skills. panthers where upset they couldnt evaluate the offensive team during the late during preseason, cause no one RB could help protect and get time to throw. so waste a 6th (thats going to be cut) to help the evaluation process......eh. im done bitach about a late 6th, cause this is on par with the madden tards comparing it to real stuff.
