They might be Giants...

As of right now, the Panthers only have nine players on their eighty man roster that are under six feet tall.

The shortest players on the team right now...

RB DeAngelo Williams  (5-9)

RB Kenjon Barner  (5-9)
FB Mike Tolbert  (5-9)

RB Jonathan Stewart  (5-10)
WR Kealoha Pilares  (5-10)
CB De'Andre Presley  (5-10)
CB Charles Godfrey  (5-11)

CB Josh Thomas  (5-11)
CB De'Quan Menzie  (5-11)

About half the list is runningbacks and about half cornerbacks.  You might notice that the sub-six crown includes only one wide receiver (Kealoha Pilares).

On the flipside, there are twelve players measuring in at 6'5 or higher.  They are...

QB Cam Newton  (6-5)

WR Kelvin Benjamin  (6-5)

TE Greg Olsen  (6-5)

T Byron Bell  (6-5)

G Phillipkeith Manley  (6-5)

DE Wes Horton  (6-5)

DE Alex Hall  (6-5)

QB Derek Anderson  (6-6)
TE D.C. Jefferson  (6-6)

T Andrew McDonald  (6-6)
T Oscar Johnson  (6-6)
T Travis Bond  (6-7)

The majority of the 'tallest of the tall' are linemen on one side of the ball or the other.  But also on that list you have two quarterbacks who top 6'5.  In case you're wondering, the shortest quarterback on roster right now is Matt Blanchard, who stands 6'3.  You'll also see two tight ends listed.  There are currently six tight ends on roster, and the only one who stands shorter than 6'4 is TE/FB tweener Richie Brockel (6'1).

So a dozen guys 6'5 and up.  And - without listing them all - to that you can add eleven guys who stand 6'3 and sixteen who measure in at 6'4.  That totals thirty-nine total players at 6'3 and up, right at half the existing roster.

I haven't done a study of average height across the league, but I think it's fairly safe to say that as far as the Panthers go, the team braintrust seems to have a preference for guys on the top end of the height chart.

I didn't realize Derek Anderson was that tall.

Yeah. I thought the same thing when we first signed him. Then, I was at the training camp shortly after he arrived, and he is a big dude. I mean, he and Cam are very similar in size.

    • Ohio State no. 8 won it all last year.  No. 6 Penn State and no. 7 Notre Dame advanced to the semi-final. This year no. 7 Ole Miss is going to win it all.
    • agreed.  Lack of games/opportunity makes him a non-factor in OROTY talk.  He is just now getting the stage where there is legit film on him.  Takes awhile to really see how guys react to all the different scenarios and to find the real weak spots on a QB's play in an O.
    • Oh boy how the tables have turned...the passion and extent at which you defend Shough would make even the staunchest Bryce fanboys blush.  The bold part is especially straight from their playbook.  Even if someone here were to withhold giving Shough props, it's pretty understandable as a Panthers fan.  What's quite odd is becoming the biggest stan of our most hated rival's starting QB.  I don't think even Saints fans drool over him this hard. For the record I think this talk about "stans" and "fanboys" is cringe AF and I'm admittedly being rather hyperbolic because this is exactly the kind of discourse and language you personally love to engage in and it's fun to play in the mud from time to time.  There is absolutely no world where you do not meet your own criteria of a "Super Stan" for Shough with how loosely you apply that label to people for Bryce in here.  You're like the Final Boss of Super Stans.
