2014 World Cup: Group G

So....

Do you start Besler if he's healthy or do you go with Brooks?

And do you start Johansson or Wondolowski up top on Sunday.

As for Bedoya and Dempsey, I think both will be fine. If not Zusi would start and both Wondo and Johansson would start.

I didn't really see a spark from Johannson, but I think he will start because he is a bigger body and attacks going forward from outside the box.  He is more dangerous on set pieces.  Wondo will likely come on as a sub in the 2nd half regardless of how the game is going.  Neither of these strikers is good for 90 mins like Jozy.  Another option would be to move Dempsey up into the single striker role and put Bedoya and Zusi on the wings.

I think you have to play Besler if he is fit.  He was having a fine game until his injury.  If Brooks has to start, we might see some lapses and possibly some mistakes.  Its very different starting as opposed to being subbed in.  The expectations are different.  Just as long as Omar doesn't see the field (I wish we could go back and keep Goodson and cut Omar).

Lots of rumors going around that CR7 is done for the World Cup.

He never looked right after injuring the knee initially. He didn't look anything like himself on Monday. Wouldn't surprise me if true and it's sounding like it is.

    • After some of the calls last year probably won't see much of a drop off

Resisting changes that would actually incentivize good performance and not seniority based systems. What a bunch of donkeys. Hope the replacements straight up take their jobs and never give them back. Sick of watching refs script games with no repercussions.
    • Donovan seems like highest risk to me. Lloyd and May have already established relationships with all these kids. There’s probably guys hitting the portal that they recruited from HS. And then there’s the possibility of transferring their own guys from their current teams. They’ve also been recruiting the HS kids for like the next 5 years already. Look at the Iowa coach who hit the ground running by transferring all his guys from his D2 program. Or going across sports to Cignetti transferring all his JMU guys year one then building off that to a national title year 2. Donovan is starting from square one having been in the NBA so long and he’s already 60. So you’re potentially punting year 1 for a guy you are just hoping to be a 10 year hire while you figure out how to actually develop your next home grown 20yr guy. That’s 1/10th of the time you have him, more or less at best. The hope would be that he would find some high level assistants who have been working the college recruiting trails already, but then are you giving up his ideal staff just to get a foothold in recruiting and transfers. Think Belichick year one was bad? Imagine how much worse it would be without Steve Belichicks transfer portal pulls. Hoping Mays or Lloyd are all they’re cracked up to be.
