UPDATE: McBob Signs With Heat

Recommended Posts

I think we'll definitely bring in a vet to start now at PF, someone like Humphries maybe. We're going to miss McRoberts' passing ability big time.

I won't miss his below average 3-pt %, below average defense, below average rebounding, & non-existent post game.

He's a PF who's only great skill is passing the basketball. He's not that good.

He basically replaces battier

He is better player right now then Battier.

Btw, has anyone read the ESPN comments for this? Those people are going off on the Heat. I feel kind of bad for McRoberts right now. Aside from the fact he's making 6 million a year.

Not sure what to think of this.  I think that if it were me, I'd feel inclined to be loyal to the team that gave me an opportunity for a bigger contract in the first place.  However McBob is replaceable and signing him for 4 years would create a serious log jam at the PF position in seasons ahead.  I don't think McBob has illustrated the sort of long term consistency that warranted this contract.  Plus I think he's an awful shooter, despite his percentage.  Misses too many wide open 3's.

I think we'll be fine and it may be an addition by subtraction.

It also forces Kemba to show he can run an offense before his contract is up.

It was the right move for us considering the money. That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if we indeed offered more at the end and he chose Miami over Charlotte, simply because it's Miami.

seems your right

"Adrian Wojnarowsk of Yahoo Sports reported Monday that Charlotte upped its offer to the full mid-level exception—roughly double what McRoberts was due to earn"

i personally would have liked McBob to resign but realistically i would only want him starting this year before hopefully zeller and vonleh develop. then paying $6m a year for a guy deep in the rotation wouldnt be worth it

i cant see him being given the playing time and system to put up the numbers he has in charlotte (unless bosh doesn't resign and the heat are left with a scratch team next year). im glad he got paid though, seems like a decent guy

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
