Looks like Comcast don't want Charlotte

Charter probably had those pages created when they were trying to buy TWC.

Comcast and Charter actually agreed to divvy up some customers to make it more likely that regulators will approve the deal. Comcast is basically gifting a lot of customers to Charter and will almost double Charter's size just to improve their chances of the merger being approved.

Charlotte is not a part of the deal. Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, and parts of Northern California will go to Comcast. Charter will pick up customers in Southern California and the Midwest.

It doesn't really matter to me. RST Fiber laid about 3000 miles of fiber in the ground in NC. They positioned Charlotte and Raleigh really well to get Google Fiber. RST will almost certainly lease or sell the fiber network to Google instead of trying to become their own internet and television service provider as they've led people to believe in public statements.

I went to that charter page, typed my address, and got this:

Sorry, Charter services are not available

Charter does not provide service at this address. Please try an alternative address, or find services from other providers in your area.

We're getting Google Fiber, so who cares.

maybe. It isn't a sure thing. Google is still exploring which cities to add it to.

The city has submitted their plan, Google had good thing to say about it, but that doesn't mean it is coming.

Even if it does, it'll be several years away.

From everything I've read, Google LOVES us.

From everything I've read, Google LOVES us.

Same here. I was just pointing out that it isn't a guarantee just yet.

One thing I think that works hugely in our favor is RST Fiber out of Shelby has already laid 3000 miles of fiber in the ground around the state. They've played it like they're going to be a 1gbps internet provider so far, but they haven't delivered on starting service this summer as promised despite putting out a press release saying they activated the network back in March or April.

They are actually the fiber network that Google's server farm in Cleveland County is hooked up to, so I know Google has worked with them in the past.

I think that they are going to sell out or lease the infrastructure to Google, which would allow them to get things moving a lot quicker. Most of the major corridors in Charlotte already have their fiber lines, so that would leave Google only needing to actually connect neighborhoods to the network.

The network actually runs around the state, so if this happened, Google would have expedited access to most of the major markets in NC, allowing them to significantly expand their user base.

This is what I'm hoping for anyway.

    • The new (released today) FOX ONE app will allow you access to watch your Local FOX Station - similar to how the Paramount Plus app allows you access to watch your local CBS station It'll cost you $20/month for the privilege, but if you're having trouble accessing the over-the-air antenna for FOX, this could be an option to consider the new ESPN app will give you access to ESPN content, but not to the local ABC affiliate. A reminder: if you currently get ESPN via some TV provider (cable, satellite, youtube, etc) then you should be able to use the new ESPN app via your provider login, no additional payment required
    • Not even close!!! BURNS was a one trick pony who had a big game or two a year in the sack collum and was invinsible the rest of the time....   Heck hes gonna be the Giants fourth best rusher this year.
    • XL went to one of the worst teams in the NFL.  One that features a weak passing O and bad overall QB play on the season.   XL is getting way too much hate IMO.   He had an okay rookie season all things considered.   Very much on par w/ prospects that projected around the same area with him.   Panthers made a 2nd rounder a first round technicality for that contract.  XL also getting this weird kicker type blame for games.  XL somehow single handedly lost us games on one play.....and then we ignore the rest of the team that went about losing the game for 4 quarters.   Should he of caught the Philly ball? 100%.  The O and D still played like garbage that entire game.  Even after the drop, Panthers had two shots starting w/ a 3rd and 4 to convert.  They kept playing bad instead.  And even if we XL made the play....Philly would have had a minute and half to get into FG range to win it.  Who is banking on the Panther D getting that stop?  also, I am deemed Mr. Negative, yet here I am defending a no good dirty Gamecock lol
