Explain to me: Why Lance makes the Hornets that much better.

I haven't been able to see a ton of BCat/Hornets games, but I've kept tabs all along. Also I am not a NBA X/O guy, so teach me.

How does Lance help from an X/O perspective?

Same for our other signings.

At 23 Lance is a two way player with room to grow and improve. A 3 year deal for him was a steal by the front office because we didn't give me a max and I believe we are still under the cap. Lance definitely makes the Hornets a top 5 team in the East this year.

Don't get caught up in his stats, although they were pretty good.

You get a guy that can do it all and has vast potential.  He can defend, rebound, pass, and drive.  He has nice deceptive moves, although he's not super fast, but he has good trickery.   Very strong and can overpower defenders.  He can probably even play the 3 most of the time so he's versatile.  He'll make up for the loss of McRoberts passing ability and let us have a better PF playing than McRoberts without losing the passing.

We also lucked out that we can get a player so young from another team, it usually doesn't happen but this rare instance we have gotten lucky.

He has some issues, but deep down he's a strong competitor that doesn't take plays off and plays hard, very hard.  I don't think he likes to lose.

Added defense from the 2 spot where you saw what happened when MKG was in foul trouble in the playoffs.  Hendo got abused.  He has a legitimate offensive game from the perimeter and a slasher and a passer.  He will help spread the floor.  Best believe he will find guys to get the ball to.

Lance is a triple double threat on a nightly basis, gives us another shot creator, can run the half court pick & roll offense & plays good defense. He has some issues but no one questions whether or not he shows up ready to play

He can defend all 3 perimeter positions. He can play all 3 perimeter positions. He excels in pick and roll, which means Kemba won't have so much of a burden to do everything on perimeter.

Exceptional passer, good enough shooter that you have to respect him. Can score or create for others in ISO. Maybe the best rebounding guard in NBA.

Brings swag and toughness.

Biggest questions is does he keep chip on his shoulder now that he got paid and how does he and Kemba mesh in backcourt since both are most effective with ball in their hands.

Lance is a great defender with good size for the position.  He will represent an upgrade in that aspect right off the bat.

Offensively Lance is a creator, he will help take the load off of Kemba as being the only player capable of initiating offense and creating a shot for himself or others.

I think my favorite thing is that he is fearless.  Not afraid to defend anyone and thinks he can score on anyone.  He has tremendous talent and he is still getting better.  If his shot develops even more (no reason to think it won't) he could become an all star within the length of this contract.

His PPG (13.8) looks average; 2 tenths less than Hendo (14.0). But, his 7.2 RPG and 4.6 APG is what he is. An all around play-maker and defender. He makes guys around him much better. He's a floor generator and brings a ton of energy. Lance will be deadly running the Pick n Roll. Still very young and hasnt reach his full ceiling yet. We're getting a Lance Stephenson who is going to be a lot better than his last two years at Indiana. He's been in the shadows of Granger and George. Coming to Charlotte could make things a lot more different. Other than Al, our offense is very limited. Lance could make a real name here with Al.

He's not James Harden, but I think that he's in a very similar situation as Harden when he got traded from OKC to Houston. A guy who was overshadowed by KD/Westbrook jumped into stardom once he got to showcase his full abilities. I think that Lance could be our no2 option behind Al and in front of Kemba.

Harden is a better scorer and shooter but is poo on defense IMO

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
