Who's the guy that you're glad you don't have?

So, whilst wasting offseason time I noticed today that Rex Grossman and Brady Quinn were signed by NFL teams today.  Of all the thoughts in the world I said to myself "gee, I am so glad that the Bills didn't have to be doing something like this."

About 10 seconds later I realized that we are pretty much a lousy team, with potential of course, but it made me wonder why because EJ Manuel isn't bonafide yet, we haven't won a championship since the 60's and we might not even finish .500.

The Panthers are a winning team and with the 2014 offseason wrapping up soon is there a player in this league that you can have that same thought about?  Now, I know the Panthers have their issues with depth at WR and OL, and have some issues with DB's - every team really does - but when you see Grossman and Quinn signed to two teams who seem to have had decent opportunity with their QB's in 2013 you have to realize maybe the Panthers are not too bad off!

So, who's the guy you're glad your team didn't have to go out and find in the scrap yard, or maybe even go out there and have to sign to a big contract to a guy like Jairus Byrd, Vontae Davis, Aqib Talib or Darrel Revis?

Hakeem Nicks! Mostly every Panther fan I know was screaming for Gettleman to grab him. I did not like the idea. I have always disliked Nicks because he is lazy and does not work hard. There is a reason there are reports saying Nicks is out of shape and not working hard.

Lafail. Soon Bell, Stewart and Harper

I don't see that happening unless it was via trade.  Even then, I do not know if it would be a benefit or not.

A CB or RT for Stewart?  The going market for him might be a 4th at best, so a player for player trade would be more of a depth, scheme or rotational player then it would be contributing starter.

Perhaps, Stewart and a draft choice for a player would be worthwhile.

I am super exited that Julius Peppers went to Green Bay.  Muhsin Muhammad did the same crap.  Run to Chicago because you’re overpaid in Carolina.  Thing about Moose is he is still in the community doing stuff that counts.  Dude chased money and came back to chase stats but he stayed in Charlotte and is giving back.  Before I rip Peppers here is a link to Mooses’ work in this community.

Peppers doesn’t give a crap about Charlotte and it shows.  Google this “julius peppers charity.”  This is the only thing I could find.  He donated money to the Tarheels after they got busted for “academic fraud.”

I wish Carolina had never drafted (and paid) such a thoughtless former member of our community.  The kids are gonna love the team no matter what!  Guys like Cam and Luke are handling business off the field and in the end that is all that really matters.  Good riddance Julius Peppers….DO NOT RETIRE HIS JERSEY!!!!!!!!!!

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
