Big Money restructures

Captain Morgan

I don't claim to really understand salary cap stuff, but here goes: I think you can rollover unused salary cap space from one season to the next. So that would mean we now get an extra $5.2 million over the standard cap to spend next year on Cam's contract.

Cam is under contract next season for around $14mil (5th year option). When he gets an extension it will start in 2016, not next year.

Not necessarily....depends on how the contract extension is written.

It can replace the current contract...thus starting immediately.

Or, it can be written to begin next year (after the 5th year option).

I have seen them both ways.

I do have a basic understanding of this.  Without getting super complicated it goes like this.  He gets salary and bonus/guaranteed money.  Salary money only happens if he is on the roster.  Bonus/guaranteed happens no matter what.  They converted some of next years money into guaranteed money spread out over the remainder of his contract.  That drops CJ's cap # down next year.

    • His decreased snap count probably has more to do with Coker getting healthy and Dave wanting horn out there for his one jet sweep a game. Dave is constantly rotating all the receivers and i think he values having fresh legs at all times over specific players for situations.
    • Tyler Shough's wins are against us (a very up and down team), Tampa who is crumbling, and the Jets and Titans. He's played well but there's the very real possibility that when the lights are bright he turns into a Matt Moore, Kyle Allen, or Desmond Ridder. I could at least see the logic in thinking NO is on the upswing, but it's not like the Falcons just all of a sudden are a contender because of the QB switch to Cousins. He's still the same guy who is up and down - and there's no telling whether he'll actually be there next year with his age/salary combo.  My post had nothing to do with Bryce, this has been a popular refrain way back to the Fox/Rivera years when we pick up a few late season wins and it was always thought of around here as we only win when it doesn't matter and only there to screw up draft position.
    • yea, I dont have the all 22, I really would be interested because I seem to remember seeing A LOT more of Tremayne in the 2nd half, but like most of us I was just watching the game as a fan.
