Sold on the offensive line yet ?

Last season Panther running backs averaged 3.9 yards per rush attempt, while Cam Newton averaged 4.0 yards per designed rush attempt.

Against the Bucs on Sunday, Carolina running backs averaged 3.4 yards per rush attempt.

While this is a very small sample size and Lovie Smith's defense may end up being much improved over last season, this cannot be viewed as an auspicious start as far as run blocking is concerned.

On the pass protection side of things, the Panthers only allowed 1 sack on 34 passing attempts against the Bucs, for a very, very good 2.9 sack %.

Last season the Panthers had a very high 8.3 % sack percentage.

Detroit was average in rush defense last year, giving up 4.2 yards per rush attempt and downright poor in getting to the opposing QB, tallying only 33 total sacks and a poor 5.5% sack percentage.

This sets up as an interesting matchup for the revamped Panthers offenisve line.

Sunday's game should shed some real light on where the revamped unit stands...

Meh.  You said it yourself:  small sample size.  Give it 3 or 4 more games before we can have an idea of what we are in for throughout the season.

Of course you are right. There should be no real judgement made until after week 4...

but the Huddle is so reactionary that half the forum members will claim the Panther's have the "worst offensive line in the history of football" the first time Newton is sacked...

The change in style from the pocket loving Anderson to the run loving Newton sets-up another interesting dynamic.

I think most casual fans believe "pocket" QB's get sacked more often than "mobile" QB's...

While in actuality, exactly the opposite is the case...

They were touting the Buccaneers as a defense to rival ours.  They were saying McCoy was the best defensive tackle in football.  Velasco and Turner abused him at times.  Claybourne and M. Johnson did absolutely nothing.  L. David struggled to exist and we kind of did what we wanted.  Now all of a sudden, it wasn't that good of a test.  What ever......................

I absolutely agree with what you are saying.

I think the Bucs may end up having a very, very good defense.

I liked what I saw for the most part, but still, it was only one game...

Not sold but can definitely see that there is potential for it to be a solid unit. I need more than one game to crown them though. I want to see how they do through the bye week, then I'll make my judgement.

    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
