Albert Breer, NFL.com:

-"Interesting to hear that NFL and NFLPA finished talks last night in the early morning hours (then Peterson and Hardy agreed to exempt list today)"

-"So with Panthers DE Greg Hardy on the exempt list, his return to the field is under the control of Goodell."

-"Nine days ago, the Ray Rice tape surfaced, via @TMZ ...Rice, Greg Hardy and Adrian Peterson are now off the field indefinitely."

Andrew Brandt NFL Business Analyst for ESPN and SI's MMQB...

-"As w/ Peterson , Hardy resolution was a multi-party 'negotiation.' NFL/Panthers/Rosenhaus/ NFLPA all looking to serve their interests."

-"As with AP, sense a lot of parties - NFL/Panthers/Rosenhaus - involved in "negotiation" of Hardy status. $772,000 per week in play."

he also wrote on AP:

"Lots of interested parties in play here: NFL, Wilfs, sponsors, Peterson , Hardin, CAA, NFLPA and, of course, (armies of) lawyers..."

-"Let's be real here: this was a negotiation, pure and simple. AP goes away, gets paid, Vikings get heat off, NFL parks him on a list."

-"Key note here: Peterson's agency, @CAA_Football supports the decision. Translation: AP will be paid in full...$691,000 per week while on leave"

-"Translation of Vikings action to Peterson: 'Adrian, things are too radioactive for you to be here. Go chill somewhere, we'll pay you.'"

-"Current chaos all started with Ray Rice soft discipline. Continue to wonder why risk integrity for Ray Rice? (Was Ravens owner Steve) Bisciotti so important?"

These games should count towards his suspension if he's found guilty. Suspending him again later to like double the punishment. Make him pay the fine equal to 6 game checks and be done with it.

I agree along these lines, at this point.  So based on the NFL policy the way I understand it, is that in Hardy's case and situation if he is actually found guilty by a jury he would get a six game suspension.  So based on where we are now, that is how it should just be.  Let him sit out six games and reinstate him.

good point. if Hardy's appeal were to fail, he'd get a 6 game suspension for first-offense DV. If you want to include the Lions game, a 6-game suspension would be up Oct. 19, a whole month from now (and he'd be back Week 8 for the 1pm game vs the Seahawks). If you count from today, a 6-game suspension would be up Oct. 26 (and he'd be back Week 9 for the Saints on MNF)

By then, all this Rice/AP/Hardy/etc drama will have blown over, so it will be fine to reinstate him after 6 games go by (esp. since that is the max penalty he'd get if his appeal fails anyway)

You see it a lot, they lay down a heavy punishment, but once all the drama and uproar blows over as time passes, they reduce the punishment....and, 6 games is still the max punishment he'd get if his appeal fails anyway
