Michael Irvin on Cam

Captain Morgan

Sorry but Irvin is garbage and as fake as they come. He is the only person that transcends sports hate to me.

I generally need something 'real world' before I'll go that far in my feelings.

(i.e. OJ, Rae Carruth, Darren Sharper, Jerramy Stevens, Ben Roethlisberger type stuff)

But I'll give you that Irvin was certainly no angel.

What the hell is Irvin even talking about anyway? Does he expect the same teams to make the playoffs every year? Jordy Nelson is just about leading the league in receiving yards, it's still way too early to see who is going to be winning any divisions, and despite the fear mongering over QB contracts, the panthers are wasting a poo ton of money on released/retired players, oft-injured players, overrated players, and suspended players as it is, and we're still being competitive.

Once these awful Hurney contracts are off the books we could be paying Cam 24 million a year and still have more money to play with in free agency than we have had for the past six years with that powder nosed asshole borrowing chunks of future cap at a time to lock up some crap player he drafted in the third round at Alcorn State.

That is why I will continue to have my feelings towards Cam's upcoming contract. I saw if his agent is looking for a massive contract, let Cam walk. Our offensive scheme doesn't call for a dynamic QB like Cam. If you are going to play him like a game manager, then why not just start DA or draft another rookie QB for pennies?

Pray tell, would you, if you were the GM of the Colts, do the same thing. Just draft another QB when Luck asks for 150 million?

Can't speak for anyone else, but I would.

For whatever you think of Kaepernick, the contract structure the 49ers gave him was pretty smart.  I won't be at all surprised if that becomes the template for future offers to franchise quarterbacks.

Do you have any reading comprehension skills? Go back and read my post. I clearly said that if we are going to keep using Cam as a game manager, then why not just start DA or draft another rookie QB, while still keeping the strength of our team in tact, our defense. They aren't asking Luck to be a game manager. I think we could continue to win with our defense and DA in, but I do not think we can keep winning by paying Cam a buttload of money, ultimately handcuffing our team. Again, it's not a knock on Cam. It's a knock on our offensive system.

For me, it's a knock on the philosophy.

I don't buy into the notion of paying one or two guys so much money that you're limited to table scraps for the surrounding talent.  That includes Cam, Luke, Luck, Barry Sanders or whatever other superstar name you wanna throw in there.

Yes, they should be paid well (very well) but not to the point it handcuffs you cap-wise.

If you doubt that notion, take a look at how we're doing cap-wise right now thanks to some of Hurney's contracts.

Oh, I'm not doubting that. I absolutely agree. Paying one or two players MASSIVE contracts is ridiculous. It's called the ultimate team sport for a reason. That is why I am against not just Cam, but any player on our team that will be asking for a ridiculous contract. Big contract I am fine with. But not to the point (like you said) where it handcuffs a team to where they have to shop at Dollar Tree (thanks Hurney).

One team can adopt that structure and make that kind of offer if they like. But guess what? There will always other teams desperate for a QB, and they will swoop in and offer a huge contract faster than you can blink to secure a player of that caliber. I don't see that changing.

So let someone else break the bank and mortgage their future.

Just because someone else is willing to do that doesn't mean we should
