Slacks/Khakis/nice pants, button up shirt with sleeves rolled up (or a short sleeved button up) tucked in, nice shoes, no tie, optional blazer.

 

It's called Smart Casual.

But seriously, the smart casual answer is what I'm looking for.  Engineers, we're pretty much known for dressing down at work.

short-sleeved gingham shirts are popular.  definitely don't skimp on the shoes (stylish shoes tie an outfit together) and wear pants that fit.  You might get a bunch of nice clothes but it's way too baggy and you look like an idiot who still can't dress yourself.

Solid suit no tie. Dress like you wear that look everyday and not look like you are going to an interview.
