So... anybody here still think Ron will eventually lead us to a Super Bowl?

Coaches who micro manage their talent and are not able to adjust on game day while using the same cookie cutter game plan trump their talent and deserve much more of the blame.

You could give Rivera talent and he will still allow his coordinators to play to their weakest players. What does it matter giving talent to a coach who spends the whole first half ignoring that talent and playing to a horrible OL in the running game while passing to all but the top 2 receivers? What does it matter when you rely on a 4 man rush from a DL who has no pass rush while dropping your best players into mid range pass coverage to watch the opposing QB pick and choose where they want to go?

When Rivera's game plan of relying on the weak links craps out and the team falls behind, then he tosses it on the talent to bail him out. And when they lose he blames the missed opportunities on the talent he put all the pressure on.

A majority of the errors on key plays throughout the season have come from coaches not putting their players in the best positions to win on a given play. Imagine an NBA coach who sends their 60% free throw shooter to the line while leaving the 90% free throw shooter on the bench with the game on the line. Or having a player who has no range shoot the 3 point shot while you never even try to get it in your best 3 point shooters hands. You play to your strengths and design plays to get it in their hands. Rivera fails to do that. It is up to the opposing defense to make that strength a weakness before you go to another option.

I dont think Rivera knows or even cares to know about the offensive side of the ball.  He is basically betting it all on Shula's prowess and he and McDerps ability to make something happen with the D

I dont see this guy winning a superbowl as a head coach with this team or any other team.

When you have weaknesses as large as we do on the OL and secondary.....you can't expect a coach to scheme around it for success.

We have 4th q preseason talent.....go up against legit starters. You won't win those battles consistantly....that isn't a coaching issue. A talent one

While talent is a big issue we have got out coached more than one occasion.

Sadly.... "NO" ... after seeing Olsen in the backfield blocking the entire first half against the Saints, I lost all confidence in the current coaching staff and for the first time in awhile thought again we need a new HQ.  I know we can blame it on Shula, and the O-Line.... but how can anybody think leaving one of you best options in the passing game back to block instead of using one of your other TE's on the roster to do that is beyond me.

Oh you can scheme around it. It is part of the game.

They rely on the run game even when the defense has the box loaded in the first half of the game. You have to use the passing game to open up the running game since it is the weakness. You have to get them to respect you deep. So, you go quick timing routes on some plays, which the Panthers do not do. You go screen passes early in the game, which the Panthers do not do. You go to bootlegs and naked boot legs to move the pocket, which the Panthers don't do. You go with a heavy passing scheme in the first half while allowing a few run plays for the QB to audible to when the defense gives the run game to the offense. Once again the Panthers do not do this. And the #1 strength of the Panthers offense is their no huddle 2 minute minute offense that creates tempo with Cam and his receivers, and we all know they do not use that to kick the offense in to gear.

Go back through the games and the play calling. They never put the load on Olsen and KB to start a game, and I guarantee you the defenses they face know that even though Olsen and KB through the air with Cam running while threatening the pass is the main thing those defenses fear.

We all know what the Panthers do in the first half. Run the ball 70% of the time, while play action passing with long developing routes, or the occasional 5/10 yard out to Olsen. For this to work your teams strength must be the offensive line. The successful first drives have relied on the pass until they get inside their 30 yard line, and then they go back to relying on the OL. Same issue whenever they get in the red zone. In the red zone the Panthers go back to their offensive line.

On top of that Shula is very strict with his play calling. He holds to a hard 50% split in the first quarter. He is way too predictable, and a defensive coordinator has it easy against him to start the game. Iif the opposing team can get a 2 score lead going into the 2nd half, then it is a cake walk for the defensive coordinator. If the Panthers start the game heavy pass then sit on the run for the rest of the first quarter because Shula will run into a wall to get him 50% play calling. He will not take what the D gives him. Then you sit on the pass for the remainder of the game and play the run to the QB. Game over for Shula. Does not matter what talent you have when you run an offense like this.

    • As I've said numerous times the last few days, having Thielen on the field has literally 0% to do with my views on this (I've even said I think Renfrow is going to take a ton of snaps from Thielen anyways).  He has more value to this team without playing a single snap than a 2026 5th round draft pick does for the franchise.   His value is helping set up T-Mac, XL, Coker, and Horn for long term success by helping them learn how to be pros, how to go about their business, how to train, how to do all the little things that helped turn Thielen from a D2 undrafted player into a borderline Vikings legend.
    • He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.
    • Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
