Demarco Murray

If dallas lets him go and since he's only 26.... Would you be happy if he landed in Charlotte?

Dallas can't afford him with the current cap it's either him or dez.

Remember we rumble with the cowgirls in 2015!

With the way Stewart played last season I think he deserves the opportunity to be our lead running back next season. He showed plenty of times that he can hurt defenses, and while their is the concern that he's injury prone, the thing we have in Stewart is a top ten running back when he's healthy.

Look at Stewart's stats against the Seahawks:

- Week 8: 16 carries / 79 yards / 4.9 average

- Play offs: 13 carries / 70 yards / 5.4 average

Here's Murray's:

- Week 6: 29 carries / 115 yards / 4.0 average / 1 TD

Another example is Stewart's stats against the Cardinals:

- Play offs: 24 carries / 123 yards / 5.1 average / 1 TD

Here's Murray's:

- Week 9: 19 carries / 79 yards / 4.2 average

I don't see an upgrade in Murray when Stewart is running like he did against two of the toughest defenses in the league. The only question mark is whether the Panthers can give him a heavier workload of 20+ carries a game over the course of a season, if they could, and he remains as effective as he was against the Seahawks and Cardinals, then we have a top ten [potentially five] running back on our roster who can stand with Murray or anyone.

Here's an interesting comparison if you extrapolate Stewart's carries to match Murray's carries:

- Murray: 392 carries / 1845 yards / 4.7 average / 13 TDs

- Stewart: 392 carries / 1812 yards / 4.6 average / 7 TDs

Main difference is the TDs, but with a higher usage those potentially would rise. Granted the accuracy of this isn't great, but it does show that Stewart's stats when extrapolated stand toe-to-toe with Murray.

For me, we should stick with Stewart as our lead running back, because he was starting to return to his 2009 form. But what we should do is maybe grab some insurance in a new backup if DeAngelo is cut. That way we'd have Stewart, a drafted RB (or even UDFA), and Whittaker.

No thanks, we don't have Dallas' Oline. Not even close.

No more overpaid Running Backs, thank you very much.

Spend the money on the Oline, a 4th rounder can run through gaping holes just fine.

Imagine what a healthy Stewart could do with 20+ carries with a Cowboys calibre O-Line. He ran well behind ours, so if we can improve our O-Line, we've already got a back that can tear it up when healthy.

But if we were looking for a RB, I'd rather look towards the draft or UDFA than sign Murray to a huge deal. He's talented for sure, but I think you can potentially get a lot more value short-to-long term from grabbing the 'right' young back from the rookie class.

Thinking you guys are missing something a bit important.

The Dallas OLine would make a lot of guys in the league "valued Free Agents"

Our Line can ruin a RB's career.

Just because you see a RB crossing the goal line often, don't forget what got him there.

Looks like the Cowboys offered him 4 years at 16 million.

Man does that makes Hurney look dumb

Didn't Stewart get his deal around the time AP got his near $100 million contract?

Different climate now. A few years ago Murray would have got double that, if not more. The Cowboys will be lucky if he signs that deal. I think he'll be a target for teams like the Bills, Chargers, Colts, Ravens, Titans etc, and all will probably pay him more than the Cowboys have offered.

Hopefully Murray will look beyond just a pay hike with another team.

I would figure his extreme success in Dallas has brought him noteriety and offers outside of football as in endorsements and such.  4 million salary and unlimited options in endorsements would probably amount to a lot more than 5 million a year and a disappearing act somewhere else.

Regardless of the "climate of the time", it doesn't make the moves any less short sighted.  For both franchises.  Running backs have NFL primes of about 3.5 years.

In my opinion, Murray is a good running back with an elite OL.  Put him on a normal OL and I bet he barley scratches 1,000 yards, plus this is the first year (I believe) that he hasn't gotten injured.  I don't consider him an elite running back and I don't know that I would give big money to even an elite RB because their careers are so short.

Plus, we would be the laughing stock of the league if we actually went after Murray.

    • As a Penn State alum I was excited to see everyone return, truth is I think we came into the year a bit over confident coming off last season. Had a slow start and poor depth at LB once Rojas went down, and once Franklin was fired the season was essentially over. From a character perspective DDS is a 10/10 guy, hardworking and incredibly loyal. Nobody expected him to return for his senior year, but he did to try win us a Natty. He also played the entire bowl game this year against Clemson which is rare to see as a high end senior prospect.
    • Both of New England's TDs were scored when Maye went into "wing it and fling it" mode. As Deac said, when he did run, he ran well.  And, while some of the criticism of Sam Darnold may be warranted, Super Bowl history is littered with QBs who didn't light up the scoreboard but still came away with championships. Matter of fact, ever seen the list of Super Bowl winning QBs who didn't even throw a TD pass? Namath SB3, Griese SB8, McMahon SB20, Aikman SB28, Elway SB32, Roethlisberger SB40, Peyton Manning SB 50, Brady SB53.
    • Nope. Don't do that. We need an infusion of talent, not going all in one prospect. Especially a pass rusher. We already drafted two in the 2nd last year and they usually take 2-3 years of development. We should honestly try to add an impact vet there in free agent and focus elsewhere in the draft. We don't need more young developmental talent there. We have that. We need someone who can step in and add an impact day one.
