Reactions to Clemmings' week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile:

Packers.com, editor Vic Ketchman:

OT T.J. Clemmings, Pitt - "didn’t have a good week in Mobile. (Draft expert Tony) Pauline thinks Clemmings might’ve fallen a round or two, as a result."

http://www.packers.com/news-and-events/article-1/Quarterback-big-winner-at-Senior-Bowl/cbc9b604-3004-46c1-883c-1d54ff8c6fdf

ex-scout Bucky Brooks NFL.com:

"T.J. Clemmings struggled against pass rushers in one-on-one drills and isn't ready to face premier rushers as a left tackle. ... he is not quite ready to handle the rigors of playing on the blind side. ...evaluators will certainly temper their expectations about his transition from right tackle to left tackle as a pro."

Sports Illustrated Chris Burke:

"Most disappointing: T.J. Clemmings...Any team holding out hope that he could slide to left tackle..will have to reassess its plan."

Pittsburgh OT T.J. Clemmings: "he got beat badly during the week"

MockingTheDraft.com, Dan Kadar:

STOCK DOWN:

T.J. Clemmings , OT, Pittsburgh - "when coaches had him on the left side in drills, he didn't look good. He looked like what you'd expect from player who played just two years at right tackle. ... If anyone considered Clemmings a potential left tackle, he showed this week he needs to stay on the right side.

Kiper and Walter FB have him mocked to us now. Tell me about him. Someone to excited about?

note that they both have him projected to us as a RT to give Remmers competition. Also note how Walter Football says multiple teams view Clemmings as a reach in the 1st R and have him graded 2nd R:

Mel Kiper: "T J Clemmings - Carolina Panthers...If his rate of improvement continues, you have a potential immediate starter at right tackle with the potential for more. Again, it's hard to be worse than Carolina was in pass protection last season, so they need competition there, at a minimum."

Walter Football: "Carolina Panthers: T.J. Clemmings...The (Panthers) offensive line has been able to gel, but there are still some glaring holes there, particularly at both tackle positions. Charlie Campbell reported that multiple teams have second-day grades on T.J. Clemmings,..but he has enough upside to be chosen late in the first frame."

also these are the other OTs they had going in the 1st:

Walter Football -- Feb. 10, 2015

#9 Ereck Flowers

#10 Andrus Peat

#12 Brandon Scherff

#21 La'el Collins

#25 TJ Clemmings

#28 Cameron Erving

Mel Kiper 2.0 -- Feb. 11, 2015

#9 Brandon Scherff

#10 Andrus Peat

#16 Ereck Flowers

#25 TJ Clemmings

#29 La'El Collins

here's the scouting report by two film junkies on Clemmings. Both rated him 2nd R:

Kyle Crabbs, Draftbreakdown.com

Jan 23, 2015 - "Clemmings has only had 2 years of exposure to the offensive side of the football on the collegiate level, making him an extremely enticing prospect due to overwhelming physicality promising movement skills and flashes of dominance. Should be considered a very high upside player. Projected Second Round Value."

http://draftbreakdown.com/ndt-scouting-report-pittsburgh-ot-tj-clemmings/

Kyle Marks @DraftAuthority

February 9, 2015 - "Draft Prediction: 2nd Round pick...Clemmings is still very new to playing tackle...Clemmings simply needs more playing time and experience...such a good athlete... This kind of athleticism is the biggest reason for optimism towards Clemmings... athleticism... his great athleticism for a man his size is incredibly intriguing...has the athleticism to suggest he could eventually make a move to left tackle down the road, but for the time being his position should be on the right side to give him the best chance to succeed early on... given his athleticism there are few doubts that some teams will give him a shot at left tackle down the line... I view him specifically as a right tackle at this point in time...Clemmings can most certainly come in and immediately start at right tackle...Clemmings should be able to immediately step in and contribute at right tackle, some teams may see him as a very good guard year one and allow him to flourish in a simpler role inside before kicking him outside. Either way, look for Clemmings to show good run blocking skills and grow into a solid pass blocker as the year goes on... Clemmings will be drafted in the late first round possibly thanks to his very high ceiling but I view him as a second round prospect"

Todd McShay Draft 2.0, Feb 5, 2015 has the Browns reaching for Clemmings in the 1st because they have a big need at RT (they are good at LT: their elite 30-yr-old LT Joe Thomas doesn't become a free agent until 2019 and he has been a Pro Bowler for the last 8 seasons straight and All-Pro for the last 7 seasons straight):

"T.J. Clemmings - Cleveland Browns: This would be a tough scenario for the Browns. Their biggest needs are probably right tackle, wide receiver and nose tackle, but the top prospects at each of those positions are already off the board. ... Clemmings is a reach here...he's a work in progress, having played only two years of offensive tackle at Pitt, but he has impressive physical tools and is getting better. He excels as a run blocker ... He'd struggle early in pass protection, but has the potential to improve."

note that those last two draft analysts i posted both agreed that even at RT, Clemmings will struggle in pass protection early. Also note Mel Kiper's last mock has us taking him to just provide "competition" for Remmers at RT, and that Clemmings is only "a potential immediate starter at right tackle" for us "if his rate of improvement continues"

couple reactions to that:

rosterwatch.com @RosterWatch Feb 12

Mayock ... How on Earth does he have TJ Clemmings as his No.1 OT in the #NFLDraft ?!

Rotoworld:

"NFL Media's Mike Mayock recently ranked Clemmings as his No. 1 tackle prospect, a grade that frankly stunned us. ... NFL Media's Mike Mayock ranks Pitt T T.J. Clemmings as the No. 1 prospect at his position. We are fairly stunned to see this"

I find the early OL hype kind of odd. I'd rather grab DJ Humphries in the 3rd/4th over Clemmings, Sambrialo, or Fisher earlier. Miles ahead when you look at overall balance and strength.

I'm really starting to dig DJ Humphries in the 2nd

He's off some peoples radar, but he's a legit mid-rounder. Late second round is not out of question either.

Todd McShay's thoughts after watching the combine:

T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh: He's a raw, inexperienced right tackle prospect whose game is built on power in the run game, and who needs work in pass protection. But he put up some very promising results Friday. He ran a very good 5.14-second 40 for someone his size, his 9-3 broad jump was the best of the offensive tackles, and his short shuttle (4.54 seconds) was the best of the top guys listed here. He also has really long arms (35.1 inches), best among the top tackle prospects.

Team fits: Any team looking for a right tackle drafting in the 10-25 range. The Rams at No. 10 is probably a little early, but they could be in the mix. The Browns (#12 and #19), Saints (#13), Texans (#16), Lions (#23) and Panthers (#25) also make sense in the first round.
