On the morning after the worst game of his career, a game that fell on his 34th birthday, Jake Delhomme left his family, his friends and his presents at home and took a drive. He ended up at the Panthers' practice facility, where he watched a replay of the 33-13 loss to the Cardinals in the NFC divisional playoffs. In that game, Delhomme threw five interceptions and lost a fumble as the NFC South champions were humiliated on their home turf.

"I could have replayed it in my mind, but I wanted to see it," Delhomme says. "I tried to do too much, especially in the second half. [The season] ended on a bad note, and I had a large part to do with it, but I wasn't going to run away from it. I'm embracing the challenge.".............

9-7 is a good "It could go either way so i'm covering my ass" prediction -- A win or two more, we're in the playoffs and he can make up some excuse like the Panthers got lucky in a couple games, the defense pulled it together, whatever. Lose a couple more, then he can say the team's weaknesses were worse than expected, blah blah.

Oh, and he's always up the Pats ass no matter what.

bears actually look good, imo. i don't know about superbowl good but definitely playoff good.

vikings will look good until farve falls apart in week 10 or so. he's starting the year in worse shape than he did with the jets last year. green bay is installing a defense that will be really hard to transition to and will hurt them all year. the lions are the lions.

if the bears get only a little better on defense then they will have the division.

9-7 is deff a safe prediction. i dont think theres any team in the NFC thats that much better than any of the others. IMO an 11-5 record can get a first round bye and a 9-7 could easily be a wild card

I think 9-7 could easily win the division this year.

    • Bryce and Dave will determine how many games this team wins next year. It’s not on the WRs. The RBs. LBs. This is about 2 things: 1. Can Bryce continue to come up big in the few key downs that decide most games?  2. Can Canales evolve his play calling to counter punch like the big boys do. Half time adjustments.  teams that score 30+ points on the regular win more games than not. That’s on Bryce and Dave. The offense is top 10 at every position group, save for TE and QB. A baller TE is gravy but not crucial when the receivers are dudes.  The defense is the defense. It’ll be better this season, hopefully by a large margin, but Dave/Bryce is really where it’s at.
    • Normally I'd wholeheartedly agree with this. But I feel like teams figured out this offense after the Raiders game. Bryce was so inept the first 2 games that we couldn't really even run the offense. Dalton's first game showed what we had. But after that game, coverages got a lot tighter and windows were smaller. When Bryce came back in, his ability to extend plays made a big difference. It's really difficult to stop a QB that can beat/escape 1on1 tacklers. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense when you blitz. And he was completing throws in tight coverage with anticipation. Point being Bryce wasn't throwing to wide open receivers that were schemed open by the offense. Occasionally yes. But not often.
    • With the additions we've made to our roster combined with the state of the division and the conference as a whole there is no excuse for this team not to make a legitimate push for 8-9 wins. Anything less is honestly inexcusable. There will be no more free passes for being a doormat in this iteration of the league where even mediocre teams are competing for playoff spots.
