Tiger looks done

Recommended Posts

Shot an 85 today and just played like a hacker at your local course.  No injuries to see, just was not there.

He seems to get close every now and then, but then falls completely off the wagon, so to speak.

I doubt he will ever be competitive in a normal tournament anymore, much less a major.  Not sure if he has a mental block or what

I'm wondering what Kevin Green will have to say... I'm not ready to say Tiger is done-done, but golf is a damned hard game and if you start going south, it's mentally hard to overcome. Every swing becomes "ok where will this one go" and once you lose that confidence man it's hard to get back, and I'm just talking about amateur golf. I can't imagine the pressure on the pga.

I'm surprised one of his injuries didn't flare up somewhere on the back 9 when his game was in the toilet. It's been a go-to for him- start playing bad and all of a sudden an injury hits him.

I agree with J, since his dad passed and he decided to park the Escalade under a palm tree while the wife was giving him some swing tips with a pitching wedge, he just hasn't been the same.

Oh well, at least I'll be able to watch the final round tomorrow and see the leaders instead of watching every shot Tiger hits while he's 20 shots out of the lead...

He's one of the biggest names in the sport, what exactly do you expect? This is like bitching about seeing Cam Newton too much in Panthers highlights.

I agree with abh, you can't compare golf and the NFL IMO... Yes Tiger is arguably the best golfer ever (personally I think Nicklaus did more but...) The PGA media is utterly horrible about showing him at the cost of even showing the leaders in tournaments. It gotten to be a running joke these past few years. There are plenty of other stars to show now... Speith, McIlroy, Phil, Fowler, DJ, Scott...

ESPN would spend 4 mins of their 4 min, 15 second golf headline talking about Tiger hit this shot, Tiger went to his knees after missing this putt, Tiger......., then, they'd close it by saying, "he is tied for 32nd", X golfer is leading at -12.  On to tennis.

I understand his popularity, but for the sake of the sport, please report who else showed up

ESPN did the same crap with Farve on his goodbye for 3 years tour and they do the same with Lebron and the NBA

The PGA would be smart to market other stars considering casual fans have no idea who golfs these days other than Tiger and lefty.

Agreed, although Phil shows up on leader boards every now and then, he can't help but know the years are against him at this point.  He is their most popular asset right now, but won't be around too much longer

I've noticed they do go a little overboard with showing him. He's a polarizing figure right now. But the funny thing about the people who complain about his media coverage, or him in general, they are pretty much always the first ones to come and comment about him when his name is mentioned, yet they claim to dislike him so much. At this point it looks like his name sells better with the people who don't like him more than his own fans. As long as it's that way, guess what? You'll keep seeing him.

He sells merch now for sure... His galleries at tournaments are still huge and he does have a huge following. I don't care for Tiger mainly for his general attitude. I've been up close to him many times at tournaments and he comes across as a huge asshole. Now don't get me wrong, he's not alone in that... Rory Sabatini, Davis Love III, Nick Faldo, Patrick Reed, and until I talked to him last year I would've include Vijay in this as well, but he actually seems like a pretty decent guy. My main problem with Tiger has always been more his media coverage. He's the Dallas Cowboys or New England Patriots of the PGA. They just can't shut up about him no matter how he does. I've seen other golfers hit the EXACT same shot as Tiger and the announcers say Tiger's shot was brilliant and the other was bad. It's hilarious some of the stuff that goes on.

Regardless of his personal life, or media coverage, it's a shame to see someone who was once a great in his sport become a shell of himself.

I feel sorry for people who regularly revel in seeing him do poorly.

I don't feel sorry for him a bit. Nike is paying him a shitload... Along with other sponsors. He's doing pretty well by all accounts. Sure he's playing bad now but he's won 14 Majors and countless other tourneys, most golfers don't even scratch that. Honestly I think his main problems are A) his health and the fact that his back and knee has caused him to change his swing many times and B) he's mentally out of it probably more so bc of A than his personal life. Tiger was never a great striker of the ball, but he was brilliant around and on the greens. Look at Sergio, he's the exact opposite... And look at their records. Tiger has gotten worse with his driver and irons and lost most of his putting brilliance. He's just an avg pro now.

    • Exactly.  You let him play out next season and continue to develop Thorton.  Jackson’s earned his next contract, but his age and the risk of tying up such a large portion of the payroll at one position leads me to believe that we’ll let him walk. In all likelihood, we’ll draft another CB, or two, and bring in some journeymen to fill the roster void, between now and the start of the 2027 season.  That’ll create more balance financially across the roster enabling us to invest in other areas.
    • As far as the NFCS … I think this division will be hotly contested the next couple of years.   I am tending to pay more respect to both Atlanta and the Saints n terms of how strong they will be moving forward, than not.    I am mixed on Ryan but think they have a decent roster to start with. I don’t think he blundered hiring Stefanski. And that offense can be dangerous with a QB. Plus, defense is arrow up. No 1st round pick, WB issues will dull their effectiveness. Question is, to what degree?   I think Moore is going to be a good HC and can overcome tape that people have on Shough. They need a lot but they were playing with people. Just the way you want to see all the way to the end.    Not sure about Tampa they have Mayfield but I don’t think they can maintain their success and Bowles is not going to last much longer. They have to go through all that. Gonna be tough once it starts. Might already have started.    For us I feel pretty good about Morgan. But less so about our offense, we have some short term RB and OL issues and those things are critical given what we are working with at QB.  Overall, mixed. Like a lot of what I see but some major question marks remain.
    • Absolutely. If we are talking about a 20 year old youngster. He's a grown-ass man, and he doesn't know what his job entails or how to do it? Maybe he will be better next year! It's the Panther way.
