Cam watching footy down under

I can't believe the Panthers (or any media here) haven't mentioned this, but Cam is in Australia right now taking in their awesome version of football (which I fell in love with last summer... it's worth a look). One of the TV people during the game he was at yesterday said he was there for Gatorade, but I haven't heard a single word about it here. Whatever the case, this is awesome for me because it's my favorite player from my favorite team at one of my random sports interests half a world away... what are the odds?! Completely blew me away when I saw him at the Hawthorn-Collingwood game last night and I'm totally geeking out about it. He's at the Richmond-Greater Western Sydney game happening right now. Hope he comes back home soon, though... we don't need him coming to training camp all jet lagged. :P

EDIT: Leave it to Bill to be the first one on it: http://blackandbluereview.com/cam-newton-australia/

Australian sports journalists with some nice words about Cam. An AFL head coach, Phil Walsh, was found dead in his home a few days ago; his son had stabbed him to death and injured his mother.

Nice interview between Cam and some AFL journalists. Very good interview and Cam is very respectful. If you don't want to listen to the whole thing, about partway through (6:20 or so) they start asking football questions. To sum up shortly:
*Cam says he's in Australia with Gatorade and the Richmond Tigers (an AFL club) to try and expand his game through stuff like eating habits and learning new workout techniques. He's trying to see what sort of edge he can learn from AFL. IMO this is a great idea, those guys have insane stamina to play a game won a massive field for 80 minutes where they can be hit almost any direction.
*Cam says he has the freedom to make adjustments or call different plays if he wants.
*Cam isn't going to change the way he plays, but he wants to play smarter and the front office has asked him to play smarter.
*Cam thinks the biggest hurdle Jerod Hayne (the Australian rugby league player that left the NRL in his prime to try and become an American football player) will face is that football is much more mental than rugby, but he does think Jerod can make a team.
*The average AFL player can make a goal (kicking between the two inside posts) from 50 meters (about 55 yards) out. Cam says he could easily throw the ball 50 yards if he wanted to. There is a bit of confusion though since the AFL people are saying "meters", while Cam is using "yards".
*Cam closes the interview by offering condoles for Peter Walsh.

A beautiful touch to mention Walshy. That will win him a lot of fans here.

I was watching the Hawks/Pies game with an American mate of mine, we'd just been speaking about Cam's contract and then he bobbed up on the screen! Brilliant.
