How the Panthers spend: running back

Running backs take more punishment than any other position in football. It's why its the position with the shortest average career in the NFL. Expecting any running back to never miss any time is a insane. To say any play has to never miss time to justify a contract is equally insane. 

He's missed 20 games in the past 3 seasons.

DeAngelo only missed 27 games in 9 seasons.  10 of those were last year.  So, through 8 seasons DeAnglo missed fewer games (17) than Stew has in the last three.  Of those 17, 10 came in one season so he missed 7 games in 7 combined seasons. 

People can say what they want about DeAngelo, but the guy was pretty darned durable and suited up on game day.

But yeah, talking about DeAngelo's entire CAREER could certainly be considered cherry picking.

apparently I was wrong in my above post about Stewart missing games. I thought he missed alot of practice, but usually suited up. 

I guess it is easy to miss when you have the priviledge of a two back system like we have had for so long. 

Early in it was.  He wouldn't practice but he'd suit up to play.  He "only" missed three games last year.  If we can get 10+ games out of Stew I'll consider that a win.

The Panthers still rank second in the NFL behind the Minnesota Vikings in spending at running back

fact is, since 2008 when stewart was drafted and double trouble was born...deangelo williams has missed more games than jonathan stewart.
