CAM NEWTON'S PROGRESSION segment.

- went over stats showed him signing autographs

-Cam gets better as season goes on. QBR in Dec/Jan 20 points higher and winning percentage up 40% in Dec/Jan

- Ron Rivera Interview------

- Cams contract extention. Ron talks about the no huddle/hurry up and opening offense and allowing him to check in/out of plays. Talks about us being 16-3 in Dec. Just needs to work on consistency so that he can play at that level all the time.

- victory in postseason signs of progression

-what do we need to do to hit next level?? Run ball 100+ yds a game. Defense needs to stay consistent. Start fast and stay fast.

- Herm asks about O-Line.... Ron--> O-line shaping up nicely. Oher working with familiar coaches on o-line. Good so far, and is healthy again and in good shape. Guards look good and physical. Remmers looks good. Kalil of course is the anchor. Also very excited about our depth on O line with a lot of young guys able to contribute. Seems to be gelling well so far. When the o line played well last year we went on a tear. It all starts up front says Rivera

- Star hurt, update is: broke his foot 2013/2014? year, today it got sore, THE Dr Anderson was there and it's precautionary, but they're holding their breathe. Cut some reps at practice overall and they're being smart about practice to avoid injuries

-Shaq... Great athleticism and very fast, showing what he can do with TD and Luke, commentator says that's gonna be scary for opposing Offenses.

- talked about his motivational speech with Nascar guys. Nothing new, last time he went they won, just tried to replicate. Didn't work out, but he told them to do what they needed to do and not listen to outside noise. (Talk to the mantra of his coaching style if you ask me) Really loved walking through the nascar shop, great experience.

Herm asks about Tillman... Ron says he's doing great, talks about his prowess for knocking the ball out. It's gonna make our offense more cognizant of ball awareness.

Interview over. Herm says stay healthy always good to talk to you. Him and Ron from same hometown and they go way back. Went golfing together in Tahoe during offseason. Good man.

Herm on Cam expectations he has. He's gonna be a better passer with Funchess, talks about 1000 yds with Benji and Olsen. Biggest thing is Cam needs to be protected, he takes too many hits most hits in last several years. Signed deal he needs to stay healthy. If he's protected he's got a canon to go vertical and hurt you

Herm thinks Saints will be much better,  Falcons will be better Offensively with their weapons, still lacking on D, Tampa will be better. He thinks Saints and Panthers are teams to beat. Gave us props for winning the Division back to back regardless of record.

SC recap:

talked about how we were 7-8-1 and still made playoffs, making light of us winning the Division but gave us props for beating Arizona.

Interview of Luke:

Luke downplays his deal, not important here to work. Deal will work itself out, he's not worried about it

- talked about Cams leadership and improvement as a passer, and how Cam likes to have fun and keep it light.

- what have u learned from playoff losses?  Answer: veterans on team very familiar with the playoff atmosphere and ready to take the next step. Mentions playing WC games etc

- talks about TC and how he doesn't have to carry helmets anymore... Lol rags on rookies having to bring water to meetings.

- loves playing football, and TD and him have healthy competition throughout games and pushes each to make the big plays. They let each other know when they're making plays and it makes the other want to one up.

- one thing Panthers must do to win more than 7 games.... Just have to be consistent from beginning to end. Can't take a break, you never know when that one play that can alter a game will occur.

that was about it. Good Luke interview as always. As always, a consummate professional

I think that you're taking what he said out of context. Do you work for ESPN? This is something that they would do.

Ron was clearly talking about the Defense starting fast and staying fast. He also mentioned that when the O-Line finally meshed that Cams play was much better as evidenced by the stats. He did also say that they're trying to keep him comfortable early in camp so that the success they had at the end of the year carries over.

he in no way threw Cam under the bus as you're implicating. You're off base

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
