Further indictment against Tolbert

Bill Voth has posted some tweets tonight that should sober up the let's cut Tolbert for Ward crowd.

where has this stuff come from? RT @NotMy9to5: @BlackBlueReview What, if anything, does Tolbert really bring to this team?

Perhaps it’s a product of what happens every preseason, but for the segment of fans driving the ‘cut Tolbert’ train, it ain’t happening.

“He’s obviously slower” … “He’s one-dimensional”

CAR loves him. Injury = lost season in ’14 after PRO BOWL year in ’13.

More rain/parades: Ward, Wegher w/3rd team again today.

RT @BennettHipp: @BlackBlueReview Wanting to cut Tolbert for Ward is peak preseason.

One respondent to his tweet had a very good excerpt from Ron Rivera's comments (not sure from when) on what the team loves in Tolbert:

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
    • Sauls getting cut by Steelers if no trade happens.
    • No they are going to give Claudin Cherelus 2 spots.
