Would you rather? - Final Roster Bubble Guys Edition

Bronn

IMHO there are several spots in which the Panthers have battles for a roster spot between two specific guys. In this thread, I want opinions on the following bubble battles:

Whittaker or Wegher?

Other RBs making the team: Stewart, Artis-Payne, and Todman.

I think we know pretty well what Whittaker brings to the table, but I see a lot of promise in Wegher. I'm torn on this one because I like both guys.

Corey Brown, Bersin, or Cotchery?

Other WRs making the team: Ginn, Funchess, and Norwood.

I feel like Cotchery will stick because of his experience, so I think this is really a battle between Brown and Bersin. Again, I like them both, but I feel like we can only keep one. My money is on Bersin.

Rakim Cox or Wes Horton?

Other DEs making the team: Johnson, Ealy, and Addison.

Cox, in my opinion has been one of the stars of the preseason. I think he could push Horton out if we can't keep both.

Kyle Love or Terry Redden?

DTs making the team: Lotulelei, Short, Cole, and Edwards.

Could either Love or Redden make the squad? There is a chance that neither makes it and we roll with 4 DTs. Could both of them make it and push out Edwards or Cole? Right now, I am not sure either makes the active team, but I like what I have seen from both.

Ben Jacobs, Jason Trusnik, Adarius Glanton, or David Mayo?

LBs making the team: Kuechly, Davis, Thompson, and Klein.

My gut is we only take 6 LBs, All 4 of the above bring different things to the table, but I think that Trusnik sticks for ST and LB play, and Mayo sticks because he's shown well in game action and we spent a draft pick on him. There is a chance Jacobs or Glanton could stick as a 7th LB, but that could sting elsewhere.

Brandon Williams or Scott Simonson?

Other TEs making the cut: Olsen and Dickson

Swole Bones or Simonson? I feel like Simonson has done an excellent job this preseason, but I keep waiting for Williams to bust out. I think Swole Bones' place on the roster might be in jeopardy.

What say you, Huddlers?

Fozzy over Wegher.

Cotchery definitely stays. As down as I am on Philly, between Funchess, Cotchery, Bersin, and Norwood...we really need some speed aside from just Ginn.

Not sure on Cox, Horton, and even Miley. We usually carry 5 DEs so maybe both.

DT really depends on health. If Star is cleared we may go with no one, but a developmental guy like Redden could sick. If Star is still struggling then we keep the game-ready vet in Love.

LB is insane with 9 guys really worthy of a spot on most teams (I'd say Reddick was too). The rooks Mayo and Blechen are likely practice squad bound, the rest is a tossup. Trusnik probably sticks for special teams, and then I guess Glanton over Jacobs? Really tough call. Still think we should see what we could get for Klein.

Williams v. Simonson...maybe neither. I like what Lucas has shown.

I don't see Colin Cole as a lock at all. If they go with 4 DTs I see Star, KK, Dwan and Love. If Star injury is worse than they've told us I'd see them carrying 5 DT's but ideally I think they prefer to keep Cox at DE than Cole at DT.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
