Carolina Panthers Most Underrated Player All-Time

It is probably Mike Rucker, who rarely gets mentioned in the shadows of Peppers and then later, CJ and Hardy.  Rucker was a stud, just not flashy.

If you disagree with me, then you are helping prove my point, because I would counter with, "He is so underrated, you underrate his underratedness."

Game, set, match.

Steve Beuerlein

He was tossed after the 2000 season for Jeff Lewis and Chris Weinke. Had the best season of any Panthers QB ever in 1999 (8 games over 100 QB rating). Went 3-1 as a starter in 1996 leading up to the Panthers NFC Championship game.  Kerry Collins was the QB who went to the Pro Bowl, but it was Beuerlein who played in 5 games and finished the season with a 90+QB rating. He set the tone against the Steve Young led 49ers early in the season (107 QB rating that game) that led up to the tie break for the division championship crown and a first week bye. He had another game with 130 QB rating, which was better than anything Collins did that year.

I remember wishing we stuck with Beuerlein that year with Collins ups and downs/injuries - especially in the playoffs.

He should have been the franchise QB for the Panthers all the way up until 2003. Imagine what the Panthers could have done if they stuck with Beuerlein and built the defense with the early rounds of the draft in 1995 and 1996.

Most underrated of all time was Chris Gamble. He was the quiet shut down corner. Early in his career, he was an interception machine and later on, opponents just quit throwing at whoever he was covering. He never made a big deal of his skills, wasn't a trash talker, he just quietly went out and took care of business.

So true. Imagine if we had a healthy Gamble on our defense during the 2013 season.
