PFF ranks Panthers O-line as 2nd best in the NFL

Any news on Williams? His injury had a 2-4 week timetable, and that was 3 weeks ago.

He was a practice yesterday.  Don't remember if he was in pads, but he was running & stretching with the team, and I think he had a knee brace on.

Ron sounded uncertain as to whether he'd be back for Seattle, but that's mostly just due to his size I think.  For a big guy, knee injuries aren't something to play around with.

Here's yesterdays' BBR video.  It has clips of Williams:

Important thing to remember:

Most new offensive line combos take a little time to mesh. That's why it's common to see line units start out a little rough but look better as the season goes on.

Ours has a head start this year because we have more continuity than in prior years with only one new starter from the end of last season.

If the pattern of improvement follows, we could be looking pretty good by season's end.

this is why for years, even years before rivera got here, we have started out slow. before this year, we have not had any clear idea of who was going to be starting on the OL as a complete unit until several weeks into the season. year after year i have said that we need to have the OL decided on heading into TC and let them get reps together as a unit and gain that much needed chemistry with each other and cam.

this year we knew for sure who the interior OLmen was going to be and had a very good idea that remmers would be at RT. having that continuity from the previous year was crucial to having early success. add in oher, who we also had a pretty good idea would be starting at LT early on, and you have cam with time and a 4-0 record.

we have seen steady improvement in all phases, esp. on offense, every game this year and i see no reason that this won't continue. by the end of the season i expect the OL to be dominant in pass and run blocking.

i don't know how williams fits into all this, but i'm sure it will make an already very good OL better. that said, i woudn't be opposed to letting him stay a backup the remainder of this season just so we can keep the chemistry we have on that OL already. if it ain't broke and is, in fact, working well....why mess with it?

    • Why would we not be contenders? As long as Bryce plays like he did when he came back, we absolutely can be contenders...that is...   if the defense plays better... which is why adding someone like Ramsey when we have a QB on a rookie deal and can afford it makes sense IMO. No one thought of the Commanders being contenders last year or the Texans the year before and so on and so forth. Top-end QB play, especially for a guy on a rookie deal, changes everything in terms of timelines. Regardless of what this board thinks, I hope the front office is willing to he aggressive in thks window we currently have with a rookie QB deal
    • Would absolutely love to have him. I dont think he would require more than a 5th rounder. The biggest thing with his contract is the amount of guaranteed money. As long as they can work out and scenario where the Panthers aren't on the hook for a lot of that, I think it's a no-brainer. The Panthers can come up with $20M at the drop of a hat with restructuring Moton's contract, so there definitely isn't an issue from a money perspective. Jaycee paired with Ramsey along with Mike Jack would give us one of the best CB groups in the league. The one caveat I see is that safety still remains our biggest current weakness. We need a starting caliber S more than CB, simply put. But adding someone like Ramsey would be amazing as long as the compensation made sense. Ramsey could also play for FS snaps also. I also dont understand this nonsense about being seasons away. We have a QB on a rookie deal who was playing at an elite level to end last season. Within reason, now is absolutely the time to make moves like trading for Ramsey.
    • He'd be a huge upgrade for this year, but we're still not going to be contenders with him and I'd rather keep the cap space to roll into next season to spend on a younger player who can be an impact starter for us for the next 3-5 years while we're hoping to contend.
