A glance at how Kurt Coleman contributes to Carolina's defensive renaissance

In 2010 I took off to Europe with no clue where I would end up. I met some guys who had planned a year driving around Africa who needed another to join in. We purchased a Land Cruiser in Cape Town and spent a year doing a loop up to Kenya and back. It was the time of my life. We hit about every park we could. I missed a few as I had to come back for a month in the middle. I missed the Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda part.

It all just sort of happened and it was perfect.

amazing. i did something similar the year before, only it was to australia and southeast asia (and not for a year.)

my wife has been to uganda but this will be my first time to africa, so i'm pretty pumped. i'll only have two months to squeeze it all in though unfortunately.

was that why you couldn't attack the crux of my argument? Your post praising Coleman has nothing to do with Coleman lol. In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king!

why would i attack the crux of your argument? i stated your argument six hours before you came into this thread, once here and once here. you flew in dick a-flappin' ready to say something new and profound and never thought to see if you were misunderstanding the argument being made in the first place (you were, and are.)

you can paypal me your apology

You deserve to apologize to the huddle for selling them false info. It's ok to like to football and not be a football savant. Coleman dropping into the box for run support signaling man? You have no idea what you are talking about.

I've already told you any safety worth his salt knows that's not a run play because

1. TE in slot,

2. Shotgun formation and

3. Jameis does not run read option

I guess because u see a running back it must mean oh run play. Can u deny any of what I am saying? This is essentially some type of a cover two trap formation, hence Coleman bails back. This play has nothing to do with Coleman's "versatility". You're in over your head.

Here is an article that is closer to what this whole formation is about

http://www.catscratchreader.com/2015/10/8/9477161/carolina-panthers-all-22-film-analysis-josh-norman-in-trap-coverage

Also here is a video by Bucky Brooks diagnosing the play.

I like how they both talk Coleman's "versatility" or not! Once again, this play has nothing to do with Coleman. It just blows my mind how you came to that conclusion. Message the mods to unsticky this lol.

PhillyB, great breakdown. And sorry (no, not really) to break up your conversations. :) It never is just 1 player that sets a trap, all 11 need to sell it. If an NFL QB reads only 1 player he won't last long in the NFL. For all we know, Winston was thinking that the line judge was going to change into a pink tutu on his left so he absolutely would only look to the right. Just kidding, guys.

I have noticed that Coleman has been playing like a man possessed. With Luke out :( I've been watching #20. Very smart man with a good, solid motor.

Once again, this play has nothing to do with Coleman.

once again, i said that six hours ago, well before you started shitposting in this thread

coleman didn't do anything on that specific play; it's a tribute to his flexibility that he can be used to disguise coverages, which invariably lead to opportunities for other players.

norman's reaction time on that break is absolutely ridiculous and there's no way anyone else on this team makes that play.

i am not crediting coleman for the interception, i'm crediting coleman's versatility for better selling the coverage disguise, which helps lead into coverage misreads, which result in interceptions, like the play highlighted in the original post.

i can't possibly be more clear about this, and you couldn't possibly be more inept at reading words and meaning. quit posting unless you have something useful to say

Again, when I said Boston will be benched for Coleman before the beginning of the season, people were throwing pitchforks at me. Coleman understands what this defense is trying to do and is less susceptible to mistakes compared to Boston. Boston has a lot to learn as a FS.

What coverage disguise did he sell? The only "disguise" going on is Norman not playing the deep vertical! Unless Winston motioned any of the WRs before the snap, there is no way to know if it's man or zone. I'll like to know how you came to that conclusion because I don't see any motioning from your cut up

You said Coleman dropping into the box means his assignment is running back hence man coverage? That couldn't be further from the truth dude. You diagnose man/zone by motioning players and seeing if a specific defender follows them. None of that occurred here.

Just admit you got it wrong.

    • I always just go back to what I said at the time. Trade Burns to the Rams because it's a fantastic deal. I was screaming it. I'm still angry at Fitt over that. Right after he turned down the deal I said he needed to get into a time machine and go back and make the deal. Hate that dude. Ruined our team. Trading D.J was a major mistake because what matters most in the NFL is the passing game, so you never unload a proven #1 WR when there are other options. Always trade a defensive player over a WR if you have that option available. Fitt was precious about defensive players when we had a passing offense that didn't function. That's how know he was completely incompetent. The passing offense is the top priority, so until that is functioning all defensive players are possible trade fodder. At this point we're in a rebuilding year under a new GM and a QB who looks absolutely horrendous. It makes perfect sense, if you follow all of our moves, that we would be the worst team in the NFL. Of course we are. You can't screw up as a GM that many times over the years and not ruin the franchise. We're exactly where we should be, dead last, or bottom 3. Whichever you like. But this is the here and now. Dan did a good job getting our 2nd round pick back, and we won't know about the picks until they take the field in regular season games. We're in dark until then, but if they suck the Panthers media will hide it shamelessly. Remember when Young was supposed to be a football genius? Yeah he was rancid turds out there when live fire started. There is some hope. Either Young improves and we win more games, or he stays about the same and we draft a new QB in 2025. Either way the NFL will help us out of this jam, but all we need is for Dan not to screw it up.
