Brandt has consistently praised the Panthers in his articles

Brandt, like most former or current NFL personnel guys (as opposed to strictly broadcasters, Bill Polian, and loud mouth old ex players), has always championed Cam Newton; therefore has supported/not condemned the team most times.

It would be highly unlikely he's a Panthers "fan". He was an old man when the team was an expansion franchise. More likely he picked up a free shirt as a guest of the Panthers at training camp and he continues to wear that free shirt. 

He does tend to be objective in his evaluations and I could see how that could be confused with "pro Panther".
